Specialists will analyze COVID-19 challenges for mental health


SANTO DOMINGO. -The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) will carry out this Wednesday April 29 un webinar on the challenges that the Coronavirus COVID-19 would have for mental health during and post-pandemic.

The virtual meeting, open to the public, will be broadcast live at 11:00 in the morning by INTEC's YouTube channel (@INTECrd), which can be accessed through this link: https://youtu.be/E1qNaP1EXgk and its educational radio station radio.intec.edu.do.

The webinar will count with the participation of Rosa Brea Mariana, a psychologist specialized in crisis, trauma and grief intervention; Susana Guerrero, medical psychiatrist and coordinator of the Psychiatry practice module in the Medicine career at INTEC; Maricécili Mora Ramis, clinical psychologist and master coordinator in Clinical and Health Psychology at INTEC.

In addition, it will have the international guest Fabián Román, Argentine doctor specializing in psychiatry, researcher, teacher and professional trainer through different universities and scientific societies. It is currently executive of the Iberoamerican Network of Cognitive Neuroscience and coordinator of the Teaching, Research and Content Development area of ​​the National Directorate of Mental Health and Addictions, Ministry of Health of Argentina. The event will be moderated by the dean of the Area of ​​Social Sciences and Humanities of INTEC, Dalul Ordehi.

This would be the fourth webinar held by INTEC to analyze the possible effects that COVID-19 will have on the productive sectors and on society. Participants will address the psychological difficulties that Dominicans have during quarantine, they will debate about psychosocial impact of confined life on human beings and about the possible scenarios in the medium term related to psychological factors that hinder adaptation to change, as well as the therapeutic strategies that appear to be the most adequate.

The first of the meetings addressed the system of the impact of COVID-19 on the health sector, the second national economic aspects facing the pandemic and the third was on the impact on primary education.

INTEC President, Rolando M. Guzmán, specified that the meetings have the primary objective of analyzing the context in which COVID-19 takes place in the Dominican Republic and evaluating what the consequences would be in the short, medium and long term, thus as the identification of effective solutions to the main challenges identified, from the hand of leaders and specialists in the field.
