Specialty in Ophthalmology exceeds the 60 graduates


SANTO DOMINGO. The Medical Residency program in Ophthalmology that develops the Christian Medical Services Center (CCSM) and Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) surpassed the 60 graduates with the celebration of its eleventh graduation ceremony.

Seven medical professionals received their specialty degrees during the event held at the Julio Ravelo Room of the INTEC Fountain and which was headed by Janice Hunter, General Director CCSM; William Hunter President Board of the CCSM; Juan Francisco Batlle, Head of Ophthalmology Service CCSM and Frine Salazar, Academic Coordinator of Ophthalmology.            

With the new specialists added more than 60 graduates of the joint program, which was initiated through a collaboration agreement in the 2008 year. The specialists that have been trained through the program are mostly nationals and others who come from countries such as India, the United States, Russia, Armenia, France, Mexico and Peru, among others.

Drs. Diana Álvarez (Mexico), Linnette Arzeno (Dominican Republic) and María Valenzuela (France) obtained their specialty titles in Ophthalmology; of the specialty in Ocuplastía, Ana Julia Del Valle (Colombia) and Ygone Rodrigues (Venezuela); of the specialty in Pediatrics and Strabismus, Carolina Mejía (Dominican Republic); of the specialty in Retina and Vitreous, Jaime Soria (Ecuador).

The Christian Center for Medical Services Hospital Doctor Elías Santana is a non-profit institution that provides ophthalmological services to low-income people. Its founders William Hunter, current president, and Janice Hunter, general director, joined forces with Juan Francisco Batlle, Head of the Ophthalmology service, to start what is still known today as “the Hospital of the Americans”, located in the Los Alcarrizos sector. 

The program has the university endorsement of INTEC from 2008 and its coordination team is composed of the person in charge of the Clinic of Ophthalmology of the CCSM and the Admissions, Student Welfare and Registry, the Academic vice-rectory and the Health Sciences Area. of INTEC.
