Medical products company NAVIDX and INTEC strengthen ties in the field of medical technology


SANTO DOMINGO. - Authorities of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and CHRISTMAS, an American company dedicated to the development, quality of sales and distribution of health products from certified suppliers, came together with the objective of strengthening ties in the academic field of medical technology.

At a business lunch, the rector of INTEC, Julio Sánchez Maríñez, together with Cayetano Rodríguez, dean of the Engineering Area y Luis Toirac, professor of the Industrial Engineering career, presented the future projects of the university associated with the development of innovative clusters that direct the sustainable growth of the economy.

"Our vision is to strengthen academic, public and industrial collaboration to develop the talent that will be part of the innovative clusters," said Rodríguez when presenting the INTEC projects to investors. He also spoke about the university's interest in product development and scientific innovation "measuring technical talent, existing infrastructure and manufacturing experience."

Among the visitors were Mike Reed, Kim Arvanites y Renee Marchand de CHRISTMASAlfredo Tejada de FREEDOM GLOBAL y Carlos Guillermo FlaquerVice Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mypimes (MICM).

After visiting the Design Center of EATON, the university received the visitors with the introductory words of the rector, who greeted them and outlined details of the history of INTEC, the legacy built in his career. In the same way, he mentioned the conversations with universities in the United States, the fruits of which will contribute to the development of new projects together with students of Engineering careers in the not too distant future.  

When focusing on the development of medical devices, Rodríguez explained that 20 of the best companies of these products are established in the country and have extensive knowledge of the current standards of Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), applied by the Federation of Food and Drugs ( FDA). In turn, local talent is available to work on design for manufacturing, quality, regulation, pilot and large-scale manufacturing.

Concentration in Medical Devices from INTEC

The academic offer of INTEC has the Specialty in Manufacture of Medical Devices, which trains professionals to carry out planning, analysis, research and design activities in projects related to the manufacture of these devices, guaranteeing regulatory compliance and leading multidisciplinary teams to solve industry problems.

This complementary training has been provided since 2017 and, to date, has delivered 259 accredited professionals in the validation of processes in that industry, of which more than 95% obtain employment before graduating from the concentration. Similarly, students of various careers in the Engineering Area have the option of taking a concentration in Medical Devices, specializing their professional orientation.
