The musical genre "dembow" as a research topic

SANTO DOMINGO. The ten main messages that convey the lyrics of the “dembow” songs were the research topic chosen by a group of psychology students from Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) that participated in the second seminar "Science from the particular".

According to the results of the research, sexual relations, denigration of women, acceptance of the consumption and sale of drugs, rivalry, violence, religiosity, infidelity, alcohol consumption, and to a lesser extent, acceptance of diversity, were the main themes that address the lyrics of the songs of dembow, a genre that is increasingly popular among young people.

Given this reality, the conclusions of the study "Dembow and social message", presented by the students Melissa Casado, Perla Castillo, Claudia Gonzalez and Nikauly Reyes suggest authorities, researchers and society in general assume the musical genre as a diagnosis of the economic, psychological and social situation of life in the neighborhoods.

Along with the research on dembow, "Stereotypes and prejudices of curly and curly hair" were presented by Erica Reyes, Lorena Basilis, Susana Abreu, Pamela Encarnación and Laura Portes, which analyzes the prejudices and stereotypes faced by curly-haired women ; and "Inclusive buildings", by Priscilla Marie Báez, Erimar Hurtado Tillman, Mercedes Sánchez, Felanir Caba and Desiree Castillo, which concludes that there is a deficit of knowledge on the issues of functional diversity and inclusive buildings in the country.

"Science from the particular" is a space created and animated by professors Patricia Liranzo Soto and Rocío Hernández Mella with the purpose of divulging the scientific productions made by the students of the Psychology career of the Social Sciences and Humanities Department of INTEC.

This experience fosters a positioning of the Psychology student in front of the current problems of youth in society, giving the opportunity to demonstrate the social responsibility that is developed throughout the university education that allows to generate graduates, excellent, creative, ethical , and committed to the social.
