The Center for Gender Studies of INTEC celebrates its 30 anniversary


SANTO DOMINGO. The Center for Gender Studies of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (CEG-INTEC) celebrated his 30 years of foundation with discussion "The transformations of gender relations as a commitment of the academies", which was headed by the Mexican senator and leader of the struggle for women's rights, Martha Tagle

During the activity, attended by representatives of local universities, graduates and graduates of the educational programs of the Center, academics and representatives of the feminist movement in the country, the senator stated that the feminism is social movement most important of the XNUMXth century, due to the great human and social contributions that it allowed to achieve.

The legislator, who has promoted gender-sensitive public budgets, initiatives within the framework of the State Reform for the recognition of Human Rights, legal and political actions for the exercise of women's political rights, said that it is required that rulers think about gender in all aspects of life, from education, employment, salary, health services, and even construction.

El Centro of Gender Studies was founded in 1987 with the slogan "Building knowledge for equality" and develops initiatives higher education, research projects. and incidence in public policies from a gender perspective. Its objectives study gender inequality from a formal space of academia, define analytical perspectives and contribute to policies that overcome inequalities, promote the incorporation of the gender perspective in analysis and political and social work, in university teaching, research and extension.

When speaking the opening words, the general coordinator of the CEG, Lourdes Contreras highlighted the contributions made by that agency in the areas of research, teaching and public advocacy, through actions of university extension during its three decades.

The CEG INTEC has various training programs such as: two master's degrees, several graduates y courses, and between 1993 and 2013 has coordinated 6 rounds of the Master in Gender and Development, one round of the Master's Degree in Gender and Equality Policies in Education and another round in progress. In the same way, he has delivered 24 groups of Diploma Gender Education and Development, 7 Rounds of Diploma in Domestic Violence, 2 groups formed in Masculinities, 2 National Seminars on Masculinities, 9 Dominican Conferences on Gender Studies, among other spaces.

Currently, they are members of the CEG work team Lucia Bayle, Program Manager; Didiana Belliard, Administrative Officer; Mariela Jáquez, Head of Training and Extension; Luz Paniagua, Administrative Assistant; Albania Genao, Responsible for Articulation of Local Networks for a Life without Violence; Laura Hernández, Responsible for Articulation with Congress and Civil Society Organizations; Marlenis Guillén, Academic Assistant and Jacqueline Neris, Administrative Assistant.

The celebration ceremony was led by the dean of the Social Sciences and Humanities Area, Elsa Alcántara, and the academic coordinator of the Center for Gender Studies, Desiree Del Rosario Sosa.
