Executives of Banco Popular promote the leadership of women in banking


SANTO DOMINGO. – Banking is a sector in which women can also stand out and assume leadership positions, as was demonstrated in the discussion “Inspiring success: women leaders in banking”, held by the Banco Popular Dominicano in the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), with the support of the University's Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Antonia Antón de Hernández, vice president, participated in the activity that seeks to carry a message of empowerment and guidance to the new generations to motivate them to train, work in favor of diversity and inclusion in the business world and leave a mark on society senior executive of Human Management, Cultural Transformation, Credit Administration and Compliance, graduated from the master's degree in Human Resources Administration from INTEC; Lissette de Jesús, Executive Vice President of Finance and Comptrollership, who studied Accounting at INTEC favored with a scholarship from the INTEC Program with outstanding students (PIES); and María Angélica Haza, Executive Vice President of General Audit.

The Banco Popular executives shared their professional success stories and life experiences to motivate INTEC students to develop professional leadership with conviction and determination, in a meeting that was moderated by Mariel Bera, VP of Corporate Relations and Responsible Banking of the Banco Popular, who completed a master's degree in Senior Management. During the activity, Rosario Aróstegui, executive director of the Executive Directorate for Development, Institutional Relations and Alumni, gave a few words of welcome in which she stressed that INTEC promotes academic excellence, entrepreneurship, and above all creating spaces for women. "INTEC is so committed that we have specific strategies to promote STEM professions and create gender spaces, in fact, we are heading to certify ourselves as an inclusion company with the Gender Equality Seal," she specified.

Female presence in the Popular

At Banco Popular, women have an important organizational presence, covering different levels of decision-making. Hence, the female presence is 60% of the organization's workforce, while 54% of managerial and directive positions are occupied by women.

In the cases of Antonia Antón de Hernández and Lissette de Jesús, both, from their respective positions, report directly to the executive president of Banco Popular, Christopher Paniagua, making up 45% of its management staff.

Meanwhile, María Angélica Haza is one of the few female representatives of the Dominican bank that leads the internal audit.

From a business perspective, the Women's Conversations are, in turn, part of the Emprende Mujer platform, through which the bank supports women's entrepreneurship, integrates financial products and is complemented with training on entrepreneurship and psychological support.
