INTEC graduates walk for a cause


Santo Domingo. El Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) held this 4 Sunday in March its 2012 Alumni Meeting, a walk for the benefit of scholarships for the INTEC Program with Outstanding Students (PIES) that took place in the National Botanical Garden and also brought together teachers, collaborators and friends of the institution.

For 25 years the PIES, covers the costs of studies of young people with academic excellence regardless of their origin or social status, granting an average of 75 annual scholarships in the last four years.

The event was chaired by the rector Rolando M. Guzmán who expressed his gratitude for the contribution of all graduates and linked to INTEC so that others can study a university career.

Guzmán said that "a university career makes a difference in the quality of life of people. Graduates should be aware that with a small contribution they can do a lot and that is a necessary step towards a culture of donation and social responsibility as people who have been able to have access to a higher education ".

The cornetazo of beginning of the walk was realized by the graduate of Civil Engineering, Anthony Bernal, president of the Athletic Club Body Shop and sponsor of the PIES. Prior to this, representatives of the Board of Regents of INTEC and the Association of Graduates (ADE-INTEC) planted a yaya tree (Oxandra laurifolia), endemic to the island and threatened.

During the event, attendees enjoyed the animation of the young communicator Mario Peguero and the theater actress, nominated for the Casandra Awards, Luvil González. The closing of the same was in charge of the recognized poprock band Bocatabú.

Among the participants were Jaime David Fernández Mirabal, Laura Acra, Claudia Franchesca De Los Santos, José Luis De Ramón Picazo, Luis Henry Molina, Miguel Gil Mejía, Mary Fernández, Fabiola Medina and Miguel J. Escala. Likewise, Julio Molina, Soraya Mora, Andrea Paz and Iván Guerra among other collaborators and related.

The activity had a family playground with inflatable games, pampering and face painting and was sponsored by BHD Bank, Ramos Group, Claro, Ambev, From the Middle Tours, Wind Telecom, Grupo Acego, Fitness Factory, Gatorade, Bepensa, EPS, Induveca, Deys and ElectroSistemas Fondeur.

PIES Program

The best high school students in the country receive a PIES scholarship. Through a rigorous testing process between November and May, outstanding young people are identified and selected throughout the country, from public and private educational centers, to give them the opportunity to acquire high quality professional training and high social commitment in the INTEC.

This program was the first in the Dominican Republic to award scholarships for academic excellence and currently sponsors young 288, thanks to the support of ten companies, families and sponsoring personalities.

From 1987 and as a result of its commitment to excellence, INTEC has graduated under this program more than a thousand graduates, who contribute to the economic, social and cultural development of the country.
