Graduates of master's degrees in INTEC Engineering can finish their doctorate at CCNY

Santo Domingo. Graduates of the Master's degrees in Engineering Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo, INTEC, will be able to obtain in two years their doctorate at the City College of New York (CCNY), including the dissertation, through the 2 + 2 Master's Program to Doctorate, recently signed between both institutions.

The agreement between INTEC and CCNY allows obtaining a doctorate in Civil Engineering and opens the doors for doctoral studies in the Departments of Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Graduates of a master's degree in Engineering from INTEC will be able to continue their PhD in Civil Engineering at CCNY in one of the following areas of specialization: a) structures and mechanics, b) environmental engineering and water resources, c) transportation.

One of the main facilities offered by the agreement, which represents a "shortcut" in terms of time for doctoral studies, is that admitted students could, under specific negotiated conditions, transfer not only the credits of their master's degree but also other 6 credits more than advanced studies taken at INTEC.

Also (in conditions to articulate and specify), your master's thesis can be accepted as a proposal for a dissertation (proposal) for the doctorate, thus giving continuity to the same line of research initiated in the master's degree, making it of interest to both INTEC, because of its relevance to the Dominican Republic, as for CCNY. In these cases, the advisor of the master's thesis at INTEC may be appointed as co-advisor of the student's doctoral dissertation at CCNY.

To qualify for the program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • To be graduated from a master's degree in Engineering areas at INTEC
  • English with 550 on the TOEFL
  • Academic index of 3.5 or more in its mastery
  • GRE of at least 1100 points

The agreement, signed on August 5, 2011, will last for 5 years, until 2016, when it can be extended by mutual agreement.

The agreement is part of the strengthening of relations between INTEC and CCNY, coordinated by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Linkage. As part of these relationships, joint investigations are planned, such as the hydrogeological study on Lake Enriquillo, currently in progress, with funding from FONDOCYT, at the national level, and from agencies of the United States, in the case of CCNY researchers. Other modalities of cooperation consist of the annual selection of an INTEC graduate to do his doctorate in engineering at CCNY with funding from this entity and a plan of joint publications is projected with the Institute of Dominican Studies of the City University of New York (CUNY ), directed by Dra. Ramona Hernández.
