Graduates from INTEC present research at INAPA


SANTO DOMINGO. A group of graduates of the Master in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering of Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) presented the results of its postgraduate research in the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (INAPA).

Technicians from the different departments of the Institution learned about the results of the theme "Environmental governance and socio-economic contributions of the provision of water eco-systemic services in the Yaque del Norte model forest", a study by Karem Rivero; also on the "Environmental and economic benefits of the production of hydroelectric energy in the Yaque del Norte model forest", presented by Roselyn Rodríguez and, finally, on the "Economic valuation of water for human consumption in the Yaque del Norte Model Forest", research conducted by Zahira Núñez.

The three investigations in turn are part of a macro research entitled "Determination of Development of a system of environmental water tariffs to guarantee the provision of the Environmental Water Service in the Yaque del Norte Model Forest in the Dominican Republic", which aims to establish guidelines to implement a payment mechanism for the Environmental Water Service.

This research is sponsored by the National Fund for Innovation and Scientific and Technological Development (FONDOCYT) of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT) and is led by Dr. Solhanlle Bonilla as principal investigator.

During the act of presentation of results, Marco Rodríguez, executive deputy director of INAPA, expressed his interest in deepening the technical collaboration between both entities, through the investigation of situations associated with water that affect the population.

Rosaura Pimentel, coordinator of the Master's Degree in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering from INTECHe expressed his gratitude for the invitation to develop the activity and agreed with the director of INAPA, stressing the importance of strengthening joint research to cover topics of common interest.

The presentation of the research was carried out in the Tito Cario Room of the INAPA at the end of October, and was coordinated by Esther Reyes, National co-director of the INAPA-AECID Project.
