Eaton and INTEC are committed to the development of technologies for efficient energy management

SANTO DOMINGO- Experts from the multinational energy management company EATON and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) agreed on the need for the Dominican Republic to identify non-traditional sources of energy, and in the training of human resources in the sector, during the panel "Technological Innovation and Digital Transfer", held in the eleventh edition of the INTECnology fair of the University.

in the panel about Technological innovation and digital transfer, seven Eaton employees and INTEC teachers contextualized the country's high energy demand which, over time, increases as a function of the development of new technologies, while addressing solutions to the problem through innovative products created by the company .

"By 2050, depending on the growth of the world population and all devices, the increase in energy use is estimated to be 57% of what it is today," he stated. Luis Valeiron, graduate of Industrial Engineering from INTEC, who currently serves as Eaton Design Manager.

He explained that it is necessary to change traditional energy sources for renewable ones and develop them together with the new technological innovations that are emerging in society. "Eaton doesn't work on power generation, but he does work on the management and impact of distribution, and that's where the efficiency part is very important," Valeiron explained.

His comment was joined Alberto Gómez, Lead Software Development Engineer at Eaton who assured that intelligent energy management is part of the company's commitment to develop daily products that allow the technological development of the country to be achieved. Likewise, he reiterated the importance of INTEC within this work.

"It is no coincidence that we are facing INTEC, it is part of the objective of seeking that integration and there attracting new resources so that the development of technology is achieved in the country," he said.

Daniel Adon, INTEC teacher Eaton Design Services Manager, also argued about the impact of technological development implemented in physical objects, which contributes to the efficient management of energy and optimization of time in daily tasks, such is the case of smart coffee machines. “The Internet of Things is already a reality,” she said.

Under the slogan "Born to innovate", the fair INTECnology  presented the projects carried out by INTEC students during their academic practices, combining innovation and technology to respond to the main problems of the country in its eleventh edition.

On November 25 and 26, there were talks, panels and live presentations that complemented the presentations of the projects in their different stations, including that of Victor Peña, an Electrical Engineering student who developed an automatic transfer power switch that performs a change between the emergency power system and conventional light.

Education as the key to the technological expansion of the country

Eaton representatives rescued the commitment to develop innovative products that contribute to the technological expansion of the country, "which it implies the growth of the Dominican market”, said Glennys de Jesús, manager of Engineering Products.

The experts assured that the agreement made with INTEC, a bond that has existed for almost two decades, will allow this learning to be transmitted to students through visits to Eaton guided by teachers who also work in the energy management company.

Among the main needs of the market, the experts highlighted soft skills such as teamwork, project delivery time management and the adaptability of employees to learn about new technologies and develop products in a short time.

"We are an innovation company, we are changing. We are preparing to make big changes, new products come out daily, we cannot wait 1 to 2 years to implement new models”, mentioned Alberto Gómez.

They were also part of the discussion Reynaldo Hernandez, electronic engineer and industrial designer; Patrick Martinez, Senior Electronic Design Engineer and Hoyma Mazara, Engineering Manager who served as the panel moderator.

The digital mindset and the Internet of Things were other topics discussed alongside Eaton's mission, vision, teams, markets and competencies.
