Teachers present school projects on climate change and environmental protection at INTEC
The event marked the closing of the course-workshop developed by INTEC and INAFOCAM, which strengthened the environmental skills of more than 200 teachers and technicians from the Dominican education system.
SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the National Institute for Teacher Training and Education (INAFOCAM) presented the final projects of the "Climate Change and Environmental Protection" course-workshop, an event that marked the closing of this training aimed at strengthening the environmental skills of more than 200 teachers and technicians of the Dominican public education system.
The activity, held in the Auditorium of the Social Security Observatory of INTEC (OSES), was attended by teachers and technicians from educational regions 04 (San Cristóbal), 10 and 15 (Santo Domingo).
Mónica Caram, coordinator of the Educational Studies Center of the INTECShe welcomed the activity. She highlighted the importance of integrating environmental stewardship as an essential part of the teaching and learning process.

On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Dabelba del Carmen MonciónThe teaching technician from the Curriculum Directorate expressed: “It is great that we have training of this nature that will support, endorse and create awareness not only in you, but in each of the entities of the community in which you live.”
By considering this training as a major commitment, Orlando Casado, Environmental Management Coordinator of INAFOCAMHe asserted that "we need to generate changes at the classroom level, improve the learning we have on these topics in order to multiply it in educational centers, for the professional growth of students."
The course-workshop was developed in six modules, taught by the teachers of the Basic and Environmental Sciences Area of INTEC David Arias, Luis Rodríguez, Bladimir Gómez, Geralda Díaz, Jeanettte Chaljub, Pamela Michel, Sabine Mary and Baldo Dalporto, with the support of assigned tutors.
Also participating in the closing event were Dr. Diana Corrales, coordinator of the Environmental Management Center (CEGA) at INTEC and designer of the course-workshop; and Lolymar Romero Maza, academic coordinator of this course-workshop and of the Basic and Environmental Sciences area at INTEC, who introduced the projects and led the subsequent socialization.
Presentations of school projects on climate change
This course-workshop, the result of the alliance between INTEC and INAFOCAM, aimed to develop in primary and secondary level teachers skills that allow them to understand climate change, conserve the environment and apply pedagogical tools to integrate these topics in their classrooms, thus motivating students to become agents of change within their communities.
During the day, five school environmental projects developed by the participants were presented, including “Reduction of solid waste at the Nuestra Señora del Carmen Educational Center” by teachers María Fernanda Sánchez and Ana Luz Soto; “Inclusive alert: building safe paths for a school without barriers” by Julissa Bodden, Carol Caba and Elsa Valdez Ronal Menual.
“School campaign for saving water and energy” by Gricel Duvergé, Magdelyn Quezada, María Duvergé, Jesús Montero and Rosanna Félix, “United for a Najayo Arriba y Verde!” by Yanneris Perez Perez and Juana Maribel Contreras; and “Let's take care of our planet: learning to protect the environment”, by Carolina Díaz, Delia Guzmán, Marilyn Rodríguez and Rafaelina Polanco.
During the meeting, the importance of continuing to generate research and educational experiences that promote an environmental culture within schools and communities was highlighted, as well as the commitment to continue training teachers capable of leading sustainable initiatives.
At the close of the event, the participants received recognition for the presentation of their projects and were congratulated for having successfully completed the course-workshop.
