INTEC teachers conclude training program in Indian nanosatellites

SANTO DOMINGO- The professors of the Engineering Area of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Edwin Sánchez e Iván Ramírez, successfully completed the Nanosatellite Training Program UNNATI, taught by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

The two-month training received at the ISRO facilities in the city of Bangalore, capital of the state of Karnataka, in southern India, was attended by representatives from 19 countries. Both INTEC teachers affirmed that the knowledge acquired will be useful for the creation of the first Dominican nanosatellite, which will be used to help detect sargassum in the Caribbean.

“This training will contribute to the development, launch and operation of the satellite. In time, it will help the development of aerospace sciences in the country," said Edwin Sánchez, who is also in charge of the aerospace science research group and principal investigator of the satellite project at INTEC.

El UNNATI program (Unispace Nano Satellite Assembly and Training by ISRO), funded by the cooperation of the Government of India, offers an intensive two-month course for citizens of developing countries on the realization of nanosatellites, with the aim of providing practical training to assemble, integrate and test low-cost modular nanosatellites.

At the end of their training, the teachers were received in New Delhi by David Puig, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to India, who highlighted the importance of these initiatives to promote the exchange of experiences in the field of science and technology.

"The Indian space agency could be an important ally in the process of forming a space agency in the Dominican Republic and in the development of capacities for our professionals," he announced.

ISRO is known as one of the most prestigious space agencies in the world. Between 2018 and 2022 it put into orbit 177 foreign satellites, providing services to countries such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France and Israel, among others.
