INTEC teacher receives Corripio Foundation Award


SANTO DOMINGO.- Dr. Manuel Colomé, professor in the Health Sciences Area of ​​the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), received the Corripio Foundation Award 2023 of Natural and Health Sciences, in the Epidemiology category, during a ceremony in which various personalities were recognized for their careers and contributions to the development of the country.

The award given to Dr. Colomé highlights the valuable contributions of the teacher and researcher in the field of epidemiology and in the study and diagnosis of infectious diseases.

“This award is a stimulus for youth to be encouraged and continue training, preparing and, as we say at INTEC, “the challenge is to continue climbing,” considered the INTEC teacher. Likewise, he described the award as an appreciation of the professionals in their branch “who are fighting behind the scenes every day in the field of health management, health service planning, resource administration and the generation of evidence.” to obtain new treatments,” said Colomé.

Since 2007, the Corripio Foundation has presented the Awards, with the objective of recognizing the career of renowned personalities and institutions that work for the development of Dominican culture. Each award is awarded by juries according to the category and, since 2019, 154 personalities have been recognized.

Along with Dr. Colomé, they were also recognized Bolivar Troncoso Morales, in Social and Legal Sciences, “Geography” category; Josefina Miniño, of Art, in the “Folkloric Dance” category; Guarionex Rosa of Communication, in the category «Journalism / Professional Career»; and the Corripio Alonso Family Award for Rincón de Luz Foundation.

“It has been a way to praise the contribution of distinguished members of the sciences and arts in their respective professions, which reveals the determined commitment and deep awareness of the patron of these awards, José Luis "Pepín" Corripio, a businessman of great sensitivity and intelligence, which values ​​culture like few others as an essential component of national development,” said José Alcántara Almánzar, advisor to the Corripio Foundation who gave the welcoming words.

After receiving the award, Dr. Colomé expressed his interest in developing a school for young researchers “so that they can get closer to the sciences and have tools to do research.” Likewise, he expressed the importance of developing transdisciplinary work. within medicine, in order to detect new responses to diseases. About Dr. Manuel Emilio Colomé Hidalgo

Dr. Colomé is a professor at the Master of Science, Public Health and Epidemiology from INTEC. She has a master's degree in Bioethics from INTEC and a doctorate in Epidemiology and Public Health awarded by the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos., Spain Likewise, he has completed master's degrees in Research in Health Sciences and in Microbiology and infectious diseases. The Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC), of Spain, recognized it as the best research work in Humanitarian Medicine, Public Health and Epidemiology.

He is the Epidemiology Manager of the Pediatric Hospital Dr. Hugo Mendoza and was recently elected president of the Dominican Association of Pediatric Researchers (ADIP), for the period 2023-2026.
