INTEC professor appointed editor of the magazines Arts & Humanities Open Access Journal and Science Journal of Education
Santiago Gallur, professor and coordinator of doctorates in Education and Communication in Virtual Environments y social Sciences of INTEC, he was also appointed reviewer of the international journals Studies in Media and Communication and Marketing and Advertising of UDIMA, Spain, as well as of the INTEC journal Ciencia y Sociedad
SANTO DOMINGO. - Santiago Gallur Santorún, teacher and researcher Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), was designated as “honored editor” of Arts & Humanities Open Access Journal (AHOAJ), an international peer-reviewed journal that encourages theoretical and experimental research in the fields of arts and humanities.
He was also selected as editor of the American magazine Science Journal of Education, a peer-reviewed open access journal published bimonthly in English, and provides an international forum for the publication of outstanding full-length articles from all areas of education and related fields.
AHOAJ provides academic and professional guidance to researchers, academics, and encourages them globally to share their knowledge in the fields of education and research, particularly focusing on the arts and humanities. He is also the coordinator of the doctorates in Education and Communication in Virtual Environments y social Sciences from INTEC is one of the 18 members of the editorial committee, of which only five come from Latin America.
Gallur explained that, despite the fact that few scientific magazines in which the arts are conceived as an area of scientific-academic development, “For me, art and science go hand in hand, they are not exclusive or incompatible. “I feel more and more committed to explaining, disseminating and defending this profound interrelation between art and science.”
The INTEC teacher cited the examples of recognized artists, such as Brian May and Dexter Holland, who in turn are great scientists with PhDs in Astrophysics and Molecular Biology respectively. “I hope I have the opportunity to continue spreading the relationship between the arts and sciences from the position of editor of this international magazine of arts and humanities,” he said.
In the case of the Science Journal of Education, it seeks to bridge and integrate the intellectual, methodological, and substantive diversity of educational scholarship, and foster vigorous dialogue between academics and education professionals.
Reviewer of national and international magazines
Professor Gallur was selected as a reviewer of Studies in Media and Communication, an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal published by Redfame Publishing. The journal is published quarterly in print and online, and is indexed in SCOPUS, among 30 other indexes.
In the case of the Marketing and Advertising Magazine from the Distance University of Madrid (UDIMA), it is a medium at the service of academic and professional communities in the field of Marketing and Advertising, providing new knowledge for the advancement of the science and practice of these disciplines. It includes research studies, projects and academic contributions, bibliographic reviews and news of interest, both in Spanish and English. It is issued semiannually and is edited by the Center for Financial Studies (CEF).
Science and Society, INTEC's institutional magazine, to which Gallur was also invited as a reviewer, is a quarterly publication focused on the social sciences and humanities, sponsored by INTEC and which has been published uninterruptedly since 1975. For 46 years, it has become a reference for scientific publications in the Dominican Republic.
In addition to its indexing in Redalyc, the journal Ciencia y Sociedad is indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Dialnet, REDIB, Peridica, Latindex, Clase, Iresie and Fuente Acadómica Premier.
For those people who do not understand the role of reviewer or editor of a journal, he explained that “these tasks contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge, as well as placing the country and the university on the list of those that impact through the work of their professors and researchers as reviewers and editors of international journals.”
Professional profile of Santiago Gallur
Gallur has a doctorate in Contemporary and Latin American History, as well as a doctorate in Communication, both obtained from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. In addition to coordinating two doctorates, Gallur Santorun teaches classes as a full professor in these programs, in the Social Communication and Digital Media careers of INTEC, Social Sciences oriented to Education, as well as in various specialties and master's degrees related to education and the investigation.
Higher Technician in Artistic Photography, from the Maestro Mateo School of Arts in Santiago de Compostela (2001-2003), which were his first higher studies.
Some of his latest scientific articles are: “The use of clickbait in online media in the 28 countries of the European Union”, published in 2017 by the Latin Journal of Social Communication; "The presence of women in the information of European online media in Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Portugal and France", published in 2019 and also in the Latin Journal of Social Communication, and "The use of sources as a production strategy news in a gender news agency: The case of CIMAC ”, published at the end of 2019 in the magazine Estudios sobre la Periodístico Message.
