Directors, deputy directors and pedagogical coordinators of Puerto Plata specialize in Educational Management and Leadership

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), under the auspices of the National Institute for Teacher Training (INAFOCAM), trained more than 300 directors, deputy directors and pedagogical coordinators of Puerto Plata in Educational Management and Leadership.

The directors belonging to the seven educational districts of Regional 11, including Sosúa, Puerto Plata, Imbert, Villa Isabela, Altamira, Mamey and Luperón, took the diploma with the objective of developing leadership skills to improve the educational management they carry out in the different schools in Puerto Plata. At the closing ceremony, people who satisfactorily completed the 6 modules that make up the diploma of approximately 90 hours of training received certificates.

Dalul Ordehi, dean of Area of Social Sciences and Humanities of the INTEC, explained that the directors of educational centers are called to know and understand their center, the needs of their students and the pedagogical teams they lead, in order to implement effective strategies appropriate to the contextual reality in which they carry out their function.

“Achieving the quality of the teaching-learning and orientation-development processes that are developed in the centers they direct, implies the generation of a series of dialogue, creativity and collaborative work competencies, among others, necessary to promote and drive changes and pedagogical and management innovations in their centers,” said Ordehi.

Susana Doné, Director of Continuing Training at INAFOCAM, pointed out that, as a result of the State's decision to prioritize teacher training starting in 2015, the institution it represents makes important efforts to offer diplomas, master's degrees, doctorates, workshops and seminars through the country's universities to ensure that teachers are up to date with professionals from anywhere in the world.

Likewise, he added that teaching updating is an exercise in “co-responsibility” together with universities and professionals in the educational sector. “It is the teacher's responsibility to decide to participate and act accordingly to conclude a training process and, above all, apply the learning in the school context,” he said. Doñé invited people to be committed to the transformative power that teachers have in their hands, because “it has been proven that if there is no good leadership in a center, there is no quality of learning.”

The diploma was coordinated by the teachers from the Social Sciences and Humanities Area of INTEC Adelaida Florentino Lorenzo y Susell Gomez, siendo the latter who stated that "the results of the development of the program were evident in the academic productions of the participants, within the framework of the development of the six modules and the delivery of the educational project of each center."

Among the authorities present at the activity were Angela María Peña, technician from regional 11 and Nurys González, coordinator of the INAFOCAM Diploma. District directors, technicians and technicians also attended; the facilitators/teachers of the program, the coordinator of the accompaniment component, and the accompanying tutors.
