Eighteen Ibero-American engineering education institutions meet in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- The Ibero-American Association of Engineering Education Institutions (ASIBEI) carries out, from the 15 to the 17 in November, the second meeting of its Executive Committee and the congress "Social Effects of Accreditation in Engineering" in the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC).

The congress coincides with the opening of the technology fair "2010 technology", the INTEC technology and culture festival that this year is dedicated to France as a guest country and where 25 will exhibit prototypes of projects made by students and teachers.

On Tuesday 17 the president of ASIBEI will participate in a panel on Engineering Teachings and Accreditation, organized by the Research and Linking Vice-Rectory of INTEC.

Miguel J. Escala, rector of INTEC, explained that engineering education institutions in Latin America, and especially the Caribbean, are in the process of strengthening and ensuring the quality of their engineers' training. This is a key aspect to maintain and further improve the levels reached by engineering and the essential basis to expand and consolidate the systems of academic and professional mobility, according to the conclusions of the eighth World Congress of Education in Engineering of ASIBEI.

The congress will be divided into two phases. During the first two lectures on quality and its relationship with ethical factors, social or moral risk, peer training, among others. The second will present a workshop with the experiences of accreditation in Central America, ABET case of the Universidad del Norte de Barranquilla and the accrediting company GCREAS, among others.
