DIDA and INTEC graduate professionals trained in a diploma program on Social Security and health insurance

The training was coordinated by Pedro Luis Castellanos, a teacher at Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo

SANTO DOMINGO. — The General Directorate of Information and Defense of Social Security Affiliates (DIDA), in partnership with the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) celebrated the graduation of 40 professionals from the health sector, the employer sector and various actors linked to the Dominican Social Security System (SDSS), who completed a specialized training program in Social Security and health insurance.

During 100 hours of training, participants strengthened their knowledge of how the system works, with an emphasis on financing, risk management, quality of services, payment mechanisms, regulation, primary care, and health economics.

The Director General of DIDA, Elías Báez, highlighted that the purpose of this initiative is to strengthen the capacities of professionals who, from their different areas, can contribute to more citizens knowing and exercising their rights within the Dominican Social Security System.

"The purpose of this diploma program is to strengthen the capabilities of professionals and decision-makers to fully understand the Family Health Insurance and to promote proposals that contribute to improving and strengthening Social Security for the benefit of its members," Báez stated.

For his part, the coordinator for INTEC, Pedro Luis Castellanos, highlighted the high level of preparation and experience of the participants, which, in his opinion, significantly enriched the development of the program.

“Little by little we discovered that the development of this diploma program depended as much on the students as on the professors. The level of training and experience of the participants was so high that the discussions and contributions reached a depth similar to that of a master's program,” Castellanos said.

Meanwhile, Carlos Reyes Gómez, Director of Continuing Education at INTEC, thanked DIDA for the trust placed in the academic institution and for jointly promoting training initiatives that contribute to strengthening the capabilities of professionals linked to Social Security.

“INTEC is pleased to have developed this initiative in partnership with DIDA. We deeply appreciate their collaboration and the trust they have placed in our institution to carry out these training programs. This alliance demonstrates the shared interest of both institutions in creating learning and professional development opportunities that strengthen the skills of professionals and contribute to the development of the Dominican Social Security System,” stated Reyes Gómez.

Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Solsire Hernández emphasized that the training allowed her to understand that Social Security is not just a procedure or a calculation, but one of the mechanisms through which a society decides how to protect people against the risks inherent in life, such as illness, maternity, accidents, inability to work, and old age.

Elias Baez congratulated the graduates for completing this training process and urged them to put their knowledge at the service of strengthening Social Security and providing increasingly efficient, equitable, and people-centered care.
