They will develop a project for the reproduction and scaling of stem cells of plant origin in the DR

SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the American biotechnology company TheGreenCell will develop a project de cell micropropagation of plant tissue on a laboratory scale, With which will reproduce stem cells of various species of Facilities and will develop innovative technologies to scale their production to a commercial level.

Teachers and students of the careers of Biotechnology, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Technology y Project management of INTEC, all areas where the University has a wide and recognized trajectory.

Yaset Rodríguez, coordinator of the project for INTEC, explained that the plants lose properties due to the manipulation that is done from the moment they are cut until they reach the final product. "So, with cell micropropagation, a product is achieved that is much more effective than what you would obtain conventionally," he explained. This technology also significantly reduces the environmental impact, since it does not need large tracts of land, uses 95% less water than traditional cultivation, and does not use fertilizers or pesticides, making it a completely sustainable source.

El rector of the INTEC, Julio Sanchez Marinez, and the CEO of TheGreenCell, Marisol Pages, they signed a Collaboration agreement whereby the entities committed to carrying out academic activities, that is: teaching, research, training, dissemination of culture and extension of services in all areas of reciprocal interest.

The collaboration also includes activities joint investigation; participation in seminars, courses, workshops and other academic activities; exchange of academic and scientific documents; formation programs; joint publications; scholarship programs; internships for students and graduates of INTEC, and institutional visits for undergraduate, postgraduate and permanent education students.

This is a pioneering project in the area of biotechnology in the country, a growing industry with great potential across various sectors. David Puig, Director of Program Management at TheGreenCell, indicated that the agreement is part of a broader strategy to develop the biotechnology industry locally together with strategic allies such as INTEC and other related companies in high value-added sectors that have already been established. established in the country.

TheGreenCell is a scientific research and development company that has pioneered the use of stem cell technology to enhance the benefits of plants through the most modern technologies in molecular biology and genetics.
