Delegation from the Canadian Embassy learns about research and innovation projects during visit to INTEC
Representatives of the diplomatic mission toured laboratories and specialized spaces of the university to learn about scientific initiatives with potential for academic and technological collaboration.
SANTO DOMINGO. – A delegation from the Canadian Embassy in the Dominican Republic visited the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) to learn about research projects developed by students and teachers, as well as to explore new opportunities for cooperation in the areas of science, innovation, sustainability and higher education.
The delegation included Jiliane Golczyk, political officer and head of international affairs; Lizconnie Camarena, coordinator of the Trade Program; and Yamile Adames, Policy and Communications Officer of the Embassy of Canada in the Dominican Republic.
The delegation met with the Vice-Rector for Research and Outreach, Rosario Aróstegui; the Director of Research, Carlos Sanlley; the research professor Miguel Aybar; and the Director of Mobility, María Luisa Ferrand, in which they exchanged views on possible areas of collaboration between Canadian institutions and the Dominican academy.
The delegation then visited the Genetics, Reactors and Bioreactors laboratories; the Genetics laboratory; the In Vitro Culture laboratory; the Photovoltaic Energy laboratory; and the Extended Reality laboratory. During the tour, researchers, faculty, and students presented projects related to biotechnology, renewable energy, environmental sustainability, the circular economy, and technological development.
Visitors learned firsthand about research aimed at generating solutions to social, environmental and productive challenges, as well as initiatives developed in collaboration with business sectors and national and international organizations.
During the exchange, representatives from the Canadian Embassy highlighted the potential of applied research as a tool to promote innovation and strengthen ties between academia, the productive sector, and society.
For their part, INTEC authorities shared the institutional vision of strengthening the internationalization of research and expanding opportunities for academic cooperation, student mobility, and the development of joint projects with Canadian universities, research centers, and organizations.
