Debate situation of the Arab world

Since the end of the 2010, humanity has witnessed strong protests and uprisings against regimes in countries in North Africa and the Middle East such as Tunisia, Egypt and Libya. These facts have marked the beginning of a revolution still in development. This and other related issues were discussed in the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) by Hugo Guiliani Cury, ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Qatar, concurrent in Lebanon and Kuwait.

Guiliani Cury explained that, although for decades Egypt has been a traditional ally of the United States and therefore has received financial assistance from North America, American politicians were always aware that this aid was mostly applied to the military aspect or was it evaporated in inefficiency and corruption, and therefore, they took the risk of continuing to support the regime of then President Mubarak.

At the meeting, the ambassador also stressed that the Western powers should be careful in the way they conduct their acts in political processes developed in the Arab world in light of recent events, such as the death of the leader of al Qaeda, Osama. bin Laden.

The meeting, which took place in the Julio Ravelo de la Fuente Hall, was chaired by Miguel J. Escala and Julio Sánchez Maríñez, rector and vice-rector for Research and Linking of INTEC, respectively. The same appointments were given by the institution, students and representatives of different foreign nations in the country.
