Advanced workshop course in nutritional therapy


SANTO DOMINGO. Some 200 doctors attending the specialty in Clinical Nutritionology participated in the advanced workshop of nutritional therapy organized by the Health Sciences Department of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), the Latin American Federation of Surgery and the Venezuelan Society of Surgery with the aim of updating and strengthening their knowledge in this area.

The training, which was held in two days in the meeting room of the fifth floor of the Health Sciences building, was given by two renowned Venezuelan doctors specialized in Clinical Nutrition, Jesús Velázquez Gutiérrez and Morella Vargas de Velázquez.

"Nutritional therapy in patients with large bowel syndrome", "nutritional therapy in cancer patients", "intestinal microbiota", "Access routes for parenteral and enteral nutrition", and "Impact of malnutrition in hospitalized patients" are some of the main topics addressed during the workshop course.

During the course, the participants were able to learn about and handle the tools available to diagnose the nutritional status of a hospitalized patient, learn about the management of different pathologies from the nutritional point of view, and the basic aspects for the preparation of dual systems and mixtures of parenteral nutrition, among other topics.
