Santo Domingo.- The Social Service of Dominican Churches (SSID) and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (Intec), constituted the Center for Dominican-Haitian Studies (ECHR), through which research and educational activities will be carried out, through the Business Area of INTEC.
The new body was put into operation by signing an inter-institutional agreement signed by the rector of INTEC, Miguel J, Escala and the executive director of the SSID, Lorenzo Mota King. The agreement will be coordinated by Apolinar Veloz, Edwin Croes and Luis H. Vargas, INTEC research professors, and by José Alberto Díaz, Lidia Esther Santana and Vasthy Jael Diaz, of the SSID.
The ECHR will coordinate and develop research activities, training, extension and provision of services in defense of the rights of peoples and migrants of both nations, consolidating their good relations.
The agreement will last for five years, during which diagnosis, programs, plans, policies and strategies will be developed to solve the economic-financial and socio-state problems of Haiti, Dominican-Dominican and Haitian origin, based on the criteria of gender, scientific multidisciplinarity, Caribbean insularity, international contextuality, organizational pluri-institutionality and popular self-determination.
The ECHR will promote a space for dialogue on proposals and recommendations for solutions to common problems and aspirations of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
With the opening of this center it is also contemplated that the results of the scientific studies and the education days will be edited and disseminated, through the media, internet portals, newsletters, study notebooks, study journals, and other educational communication media.
