Dominican Medical College recognizes Professor Elbi Morla Báez


Santo Domingo. The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) recognized Elbi Morla Báez, head of the Endocrinology Service of the Hospital of Children of Santo Domingo Dr. Robert Reid Cabral, as a Master of Dominican Medicine during the Exaltation Ceremony held on the occasion of Doctor's Day , celebrated last Thursday 18 of August in the CMD.

Morla Baez he is coordinator of Pediatrics of the Area of ​​Health Sciences of INTEC and professor of the matter Development and growth, with 30 years of teaching experience in the institution and in others like the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).

With a solid background in countries such as Spain, Mexico and Cuba, he has published five books on his specialties: Biochemistry Test (I and II, 1974), Manual for children and adolescents with Diabetes Mellitus (1987 and 2004), Growth and Development (2002) and Pediatrician's Guide (2007).

He was president of the Dominican Society of Pediatrics, of the Dominican Association of Pediatric Investigations and Head of Teaching of the Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Children's Clinic.

Contributions as a researcher

He has published 54 scientific papers in the international journals Diabetes, Pediatric Research, Hormone Research, Medical Bulletin of the Children's Hospital of Mexico and the Bulletin of the Latin American Diabetes Association.

His research on the concentrations of iodine in the salt commonly used in the population contributed to the enrichment of this micronutrient in the salt of daily use, which in turn has decreased the goiters and congenital hypothyroidism that cause mental retardation due to this cause.

It is the second recognition he receives this year, as he was already declared Pediatrician of the Year for his work in teaching and research.
