Center for Gender Studies of INTEC celebrates its 25 years

Santo Domingo. The Center for Gender Studies of Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (CEG-INTEC) celebrated its 25 years with the presentation of a video about the history of the center and the launch of the second book "Triggering Looks".

The opening remarks were given by Lourdes Conteras, director of the CEG, who said that "upon completing its 25 years, the CEG-INTEC presents itself with a consolidated program of teaching, research and university extension, contributing to academic commitment and the fight of equal rights between men and women ".

INTEC, which at 2012 celebrates its 40 decades, was the pioneer university in promoting gender considerations in higher education. The center, founded in 1987, opened the first Master's program in Gender and Development in the country in 1994.

The Master of Gender and Development, whose seventh round will open in February, is a contribution from higher education to the investigation of knowledge of social reality, generating new ways of seeing, understanding and transforming the world.

Contreras affirmed that the training programs allow feminist analysis and the critical approach of the most traditional structures of the sciences, towards the questioning of the relationships among human beings.

The presentation of the book "Miradas Desencadenantes" was in charge of Desireé del Rosario, academic coordinator of CEG-INTEC and the commentary by Berenice Pacheco, graduated from the center's master's degree. The book collects, by way of memoirs, some 16 essays presented at the Conferences of Gender Studies II, III and IV, developed in the years 2004, 2005 and 2006, respectively.

The publication presents data on the situation of Dominican women in the productive sphere, political participation, the situation of feminicides and gender violence as a public health problem. He also devotes a chapter of epistemological considerations on the gender approach in the social sciences.

The Center for Gender Studies of INTEC studies gender inequality from the academy. Every two years, it conducts the Conference on Gender Studies, which promotes dialogue for the construction of thought and research on the problems of development and gender relations in the context of scientific and political paradigms.

The activity, held in the Sala Julio Ravelo of the Library of the high house of studies, was attended by the Rector, Rolando M. Guzmán, academic authorities, representatives of civil society organizations and people who have collaborated with the center.
