Chancellor affirms Government seeks to formalize trade agreement with Haiti
SANTO DOMINGO. - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miguel Vargas Maldonadoannounced that the Government pursues for a long time formalize un trade agreement with the Republic of Haiti, con el objetivo de delete the obstacles y irregular situations that have affected for years the business relationships between both countries.
Being entrevistado by students for the Social Communication and Digital Media career of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), the Chancellor said that Haiti is a strategic partner for Dominican Republic, and regretted that it has not been possible to establish an agreement that in his opinion, would benefit not only the Dominican Republic, with the placement of a greater number of products, but also the neighboring nation, which will charge duty e impuestos and you will benefit from the trade volume.
Vargas Maldonado explained that the result of this agreement could control yourself the restricciones that Haitian governments they have impuesto Dominican products and a viable commercial flow would be generated.
Likewise, the president of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) indicated that the National Council of Trade Negotiations, an institutional body to advise on trade agreements that suit the country.
He specified that the Government's commitment more than free trade agreements is to achieve alliances with countries that allow guaranteeing exports, raising the country brand and attracting foreign direct investment. He said that in that order there is the possibility of future agreements with Chile, Mexico and Cuba and that four agreements have already been signed with the United Arab Emirates and three with Russia.
Migration Pact
When referring to the Government's decision not to sign the Migration Pact proposed by the United Nations, the Chancellor explained that several aspects were taken into account, among which he cited that no project, agreement or pact is signed in which the national interest; the respect to sovereignty of the country, the addiction y fulfillment at leyes y Constitution.
