Bio-INTEC reaches its sixtieth day

Santo Domingo.- In order to provide solutions to national health problems, the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) presented 24 research conducted in 2010 and 2011 by students in the first year of medicine during the 60 day number of BIO -INTEC.

One of the projects dealt with the frequency of prostate cancer in men and was based on patients seen at the Institute of Oncology Dr, Heriberto Pieter. He himself revealed that those treated with Tamsulosin reduced the IPSS indices on a larger scale than those treated with Alfuzosin, while producing fewer side effects. The investigation concluded that although both drugs were able to lower the indexes, more detailed urological studies are still needed to clarify the side effects that can be caused by the long-term intake of these drugs.

Another research on the prevalence of behavioral disorders in patients who have suffered vascular-cerebral accidents confirmed the need for institutions to carry out inter-consultations with the department of psychology, to treat the neuropsychological evolution of the patient, hand in hand with the evolution of the area purely neurological.  

In its conclusion, this report based on patients treated by the Department of Neurology of the Plaza de la Salud Hospital, during the March-April period 2011, also recommends that patients with dysarthria, ataxia, hemiplegia and motor aphasia be rehabilitated , since the absence of this treatment is a key factor for the unleashing of a behavioral disorder.

The BIO-INTEC sessions are organized by the Health Sciences Area of ​​the university every two quarters (from 1983) with the support of the Vice-Rector for Research and Academic Liaison and the areas of Basic and Environmental Sciences and Humanities.
