Armando Barrios appointed vice-rector for Research and Relations of INTEC
SANTO DOMINGO. The Board of Regents of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) appointed to the doctor Armando Barrios as Vice Chancellor of Research and Liaison from the university to the 2022-2025 period.
The decision of the highest management body of INTEC was adopted in its session last Thursday, December 16, complying with the process established in the Regulations for the Selection of the Rector and Vice-Rectors. According to current regulations, the Rector was responsible for forming a shortlist of candidates for the position, for which he decided to make a call for the presentation of candidates, disseminated through different internal and external means, as well as a prior evaluation of these by a specialized firm in human resource management.
At the end of this phase, the Rectory presented a set of finalist candidates that were weighed by the Academic Council, after which the Rector structured a shortlist that was submitted to the Board of Regents for decision-making. Dr. Barrios, who since 2018 has served as dean of the Economy and Business Area, replaces Dr. Víctor Gómez Valenzuela in the position, who did not opt for a third and final term in the position.
Armando Barrios is Doctor in Public Policy for the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, with a Master in Applied Economics, mention in Industrial Organization and Regulation, given by The American University, from the United States. In addition, he has studies of postgraduate in International Economics and a bachelor's degree in economics for the Central University of Venezuela.
Barrios Ross has been an economic and strategic consultant for public and private organizations such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC ), among other. His teaching experience, which spans several decades, includes courses in Business Economics, Microeconomics, Regulatory and Competition Policies, Negotiation, Public Sector Economics, and Public Finance.
Additionally, he has served as Dean of Business at the Sergio Arboleda and Konrad Lorenz Universities Fundación Universitaria, in Colombia; and also as dean and director of Postgraduate Studies of the Institute of Higher Studies in Administration (IESA), Venezuela.
