Announce Winners of the Journalistic Contest: Gender Equality for a Life Without Violence


Santo Domingo.- The journalists Miguel Ponce and Felivia Mejia were winners of the first and second place respectively in the line of written press. While in the television category, Susana Flete was the winner as a "unique prize".

In the second version of the contest "Gender Equality for a Life without Violence", representatives of Philip Morris Dominicana, Center for Gender Studies of INTEC University and the Dominican Association of Journalists with a Gender Perspective recognized journalists with RD $ 100,000 and RD $ 75,000 in both categories.

The jury, composed of journalists Margarita Cordero, Juan Bolívar Díaz, Naivi Frías and Lourdes Contreras, gave Miguel Ponce the first place, for the series of four works entitled "No más violencia", published from 23 to 26 in August of this year. year in the newspaper El Caribe.

The second place corresponded to Felivia Mejía for her work "Invisible Victims of Male Violence". It was published in the newspaper El Caribe last September 1ro.

The jury made a special mention to the work "Serious Consequences of Gender Violence" written by the journalist Petra Saviñón, published in the newspaper Hoy, last 4 of September.

In the television category, journalist Susana Flete, from Servicios Informativos Teleantillas, was the only winner. His work was titled "Announced Deaths" and was transmitted from 27 to 29 in June of this year.

Speaking at the award ceremony, the Director of Corporate Affairs of Philip Morris, Carlos Ferdinand, reiterated the social commitment of that company to contribute to the solution of the problem of gender violence in the country.

For his part, Itania Maria, representative of the Dominican Association of Journalists with a Gender Perspective, insisted on the importance of journalists with the solution of gender violence.

Lourdes Contreras, coordinator of the Gender Studies Center of INTEC, highlighted the quality of the papers presented and the significant increase in the number of participants in the second round of the contest, as well as the diversity of the topics addressed, which include the impact on the childhood of violence against women and families, even the most dramatic aspects that involve the different forms of abuse and its most dramatic expression, femicide.

The award ceremony of the Contest was held in the Julio Ravelo room of the INTEC Fountain.
