Analyze political thought of Caamaño, Manolo and "El Moreno"


How were the speeches of Francisco Alberto Caamaño Deñó, Manuel Aurelio Tavárez Justo and Maximiliano Gómez “El Moreno”? Did they have political projects conceived? These and other questions were the focus of the seminar on the political thinking of these leftist leaders of the decades of 1960 and 1970, held at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC).

Dozens of students and professors from the Social Sciences and Humanities Area attended the 4 in September at this meeting, organized by professor and researcher Manuel Matos Moquete to promote analysis and reflection on key figures who led movements against dictatorial regimes, directed actions concrete towards the seizure of power and perished in that search.

The historian Luisa Navarro, the sociologist César Pérez and the political scientist Olaya Dotel analyzed the political thinking of Caamaño, Manolo and El Moreno, respectively, based on the letters and speeches they left behind. They went through his words to highlight the terms that indicated their training, trends, intellectual growth and how they varied over time.

The debate, headed by Migdalia Martínez, dean of the Social Sciences and Humanities Area and moderated by Professor Manuel Matos Diedoné, was enriched by the presence of Hamlet Hermann, Raúl Pérez Peña, Fabricio Gómez, academics and representatives of non-governmental organizations, as well as as for dozens of students.
