ADOFEM supports that medical schools establish the conditions of the medical residencies they endorse
The entity, which brings together the eleven medical schools operating in the country, joined the call for a review of the National Regulations for Medical Residencies that INTEC recently formulated before the Ministry of Public Health.
SANTO DOMINGO. The Association of Medical Schools and Faculties (ADOFEM), in its regular meeting in October, emphasized that it is the power of these schools to establish the academic and enrollment conditions of medical residencies, in order to guarantee the quality of education and its sustainability.
In this regard, they gave their unanimous support to the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), since the institution has complied with the regulations established in the National Regulations for Health Residences.
In a press release, the entity that brings together the eleven medical schools in the Dominican Republic stated: “The costs associated with university endorsement safeguard a quality teaching process and the adequate professional development of specialists in training. It is important to highlight the autonomy of private institutions to establish their costs and rates based on the resources invested in learning.”
The ADOFEM statement comes after the Ministry of Public Health called for a meeting to seek alternatives to a strike call by the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) against the registration fees set by INTEC for participants in medical residencies with its endorsement.
As a result of the meeting, an emergency session of the National Committee on Medical Residencies was called for Tuesday, November 6, with the sole agenda item being the review of the Medical Residency Regulations dating back to 2013.
In this regard, ADOFEM members highlight “INTEC’s track record of excellence and its commitment to remain aligned with national and international quality standards” in medical education.
In its statement, ADOFEM indicates that it remains committed to evidence-based educational practices, promoting an educational environment that prioritizes quality training, professional behavior, ethical values, and strict compliance with national standards and policies that govern Medical Residency programs.
