ADIE and INTEC organize the most important forum in the Dominican Republic on the reform of the electricity sector
The activity, which will include the participation of authorities from the electrical sector, technicians, economists and academics, will offer a keynote lecture with an international expert from MIT on nuclear energy in the global energy transition and its potential in the Dominican Republic.
Santo Domingo. – The next one October 10, the Dominican Association of the Electrical Industry (ADIE) and Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) will present the ADIE-INTEC Forum on the reform of the Electricity Sector, a high-level technical event focused on energy transition and sustainability in the Dominican Republic.
Two of the highest state authorities in the sector will participate in the activity, Minister of Energy and Mines and president of the Electrical Cabinet, Joel Santos Echavarria, as well as the President of the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies, Celso marranzini, as well as renowned technicians from the electrical industry, economists and academics.
As a special event, the forum will feature the participation of Professor Jacopo Buongiorno, Nuclear Science Energy Alliance e Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineering (MIT), who will give a keynote lecture on the role of nuclear energy in the global energy transition and its potential in the Dominican Republic.
The event aims to generate a space for technical and multidisciplinary dialogue that allows for the analysis of the challenges and opportunities in the Dominican energy sector, with special emphasis on the transition to clean energy, and also to discuss proposals that contribute to improving the generation, transmission and distribution of energy in the country.
Discussion panels
The forum will feature three panels addressing key aspects of the energy system. Roberto Cavada, journalist and producer of Telenoticias, and Shajira Nazir Adams, dean of the Economics and Business Area of INTEC, will be the moderators of the event.
In the first panel, titled Electric Generation and Transmission, the main challenges of energy generation in the Dominican Republic will be discussed in depth, as well as the advances in electrical transmission, key to a more efficient system. The Minister of Energy and Mines will participate in this discussion; Jaime Aristy Escuder, former administrator of the Punta Catalina Thermoelectric Plant and economist; Roberto Herrera, President of ADIE; Edy Jimenez, commercial vice president of AES Dominicana; and Rubén Jiménez Bichara, former administrator of the Dominican Corporation of State-owned Electric Companies (CDEEE).
El second panel, focused on the Energy Transition, will focus on strategies for the adoption of clean energy in the country, exploring the policies needed to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. This discussion will involve Manuel Lopez San Pablo, general manager of the Coordinating Body; Edward Veras, executive director of the National Energy Commission (CNE); Ricardo Estevez, development director of EGE Haina; Manuel Cabral, executive vice president of ADIE; and Alexis Mars, commercial manager of Energy Group 23.
El third panel, Titulado Electrical distribution, will address the challenges in electrical distribution, a fundamental aspect to improve the quality of service and guarantee reliable access to energy throughout the country. This space will be led by Celso marranzini, Rolando M. Guzmán, economist and former rector of INTEC; Alberto Veloz, former Vice Minister of Energy and Mines; Pelegrín Castillo, former Minister of Energy and Mines and Andres Astacio, electrical superintendent.
Opening and broadcast
The forum will be opened by Roberto Herrera, president of ADIE, and Julio Sánchez Maríñez, rector of INTEC, who will highlight the importance of this space for dialogue for the country's energy sustainability.
In addition, the event will be broadcast live on INTECRD's YouTube channel to allow for greater participation by interested audiences. The public will also be able to follow the events of the forum through ADIE's social media.
With this initiative, INTEC, as part of its Institutional Strategy 2027, reaffirms its commitment to contribute to the search for solutions to the country's main challenges, continuing a series of forums initiated in July with the INTEC Forum on Tax Reform.
Through initiatives involving national and international experts, ADIE seeks to contribute to the energy transformation, promoting the adoption of clean energy and innovative solutions that strengthen the electrical infrastructure, improve service efficiency and ensure a reliable and sustainable energy supply for all Dominicans.
