INTEC signs agreement with Miami Dade College for AI training
The agreement includes offering AI clinics, using a blended learning educational model, aimed at professionals and entrepreneurs.
SANTO DOMINGO. The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and Miami Dade College (MDC) signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of strengthening the capabilities of faculty, students and administrative staff in the use of artificial intelligence, and promoting reflection on the ethical, social and institutional responsibilities associated with this technology.
The Rector of INTEC, Arturo Del Villar, and Madeline Pumariega, President of MDC, signed an agreement that also promotes the exchange of ideas, specialized knowledge, and best practices related to AI education, digital transformation, and responsible innovation. The signing took place during eMerge Americas, one of the most important innovation and technology conferences for the Western Hemisphere's technology ecosystem, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
“This agreement reaffirms INTEC’s commitment to higher education connected to the major challenges of our time. Artificial intelligence is transforming the way we teach, learn, and produce, and this initiative allows us to better prepare our community and the country’s professionals for this new context. At INTEC, we are committed to an education that not only fosters innovation but also promotes its ethical and responsible use, with a real impact on the country’s development,” stated the rector of INTEC.
“Miami Dade College is proud to formalize this alliance with INTEC, reflecting our shared commitment to driving innovation in higher education. As a global leader in artificial intelligence education, MDC is honored to share its expertise in supporting faculty in integrating AI into teaching and learning across diverse disciplines, while also engaging the broader business community through hands-on training opportunities. This collaboration represents not only a significant step for our institutions but also the first of many initiatives aimed at expanding access to cutting-edge technologies and preparing students and professionals to thrive in an AI-driven world,” said Madeline Pumariega, president of Miami Dade College.
The training program is part of the university's commitment to creating an Artificial Intelligence Center (CIA-INTEC), through which the academy aims to be the epicenter of innovation in Artificial Intelligence in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, promoting technological, economic and social development through world-class research, the training of exceptional talent and the creation of ethical and high-impact AI solutions.
The collaboration between INTEC and MDC consists of two components: a training of trainers, which will benefit a group of 40 teachers and collaborators from INTEC with an intensive 12-hour, four-week program, which will allow them to ethically design, integrate and utilize artificial intelligence in their academic programs.
A second component is the AI clinics aimed at professionals and entrepreneurs. This is a four-week, blended learning educational model designed to promote a high level of competence in applied AI.
