INTEC distinguishes past deans as Emeritus Professors


SANTO DOMINGO. -The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) recognized with the Distinction Professor Emeritus y emeritus professor al Dr. Raymundo Jimenez and the teacher Leticia Mendoza, respectively, for their valuable contributions, dedication and service in favor of the university.

The recognitions were granted in response to a request submitted by the Area of ​​Health Sciences and the Area of ​​Basic and Environmental Sciences to the Academic Council, and for the purpose of celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of INTEC.

By being invested as emeritus professorpast dean of the Area of ​​Basic and Environmental Sciences of the INTEC, Leticia Mendoza, he addressed a few words that he titled: "My journey through INTEC", in which he recalled his 43 years of service at the university since she entered as a chemistry professor, by subject, in 1978, when the university was just the Los Fundadores building and a couple of sheds, until her retirement in June 2021 occupying the role of dean.

"I have been a teacher, an academic-administrative employee and a student throughout all this time," said Mendoza, who completed a master's degree in Environmental Management at INTEC, was in charge of the laboratory, coordinator of the chemistry sub-area, research professor, dean assistant and finally dean.

On his side, Raymundo Jiménez, who served as dean of the Health Sciences Area until 2017, thanked those who saw him enter as a student until his retirement from the academic field as dean.

He thanked and dedicated his recognition as Professor Emeritus to the founders of INTEC, "they gave me their confidence and courage to restart my studies at a new university with a high school degree, which was not very likely to survive if it had not been, due to the tenacity , the sacrifice, the perseverance of those people who made INTEC a reality", he said and mentioned doctors José Joaquín Puello Herrera, Bernardo Defilló Martínez, Fernando Batlle Pérez and Marcelino Vélez Santana. He also pointed out that other of his teachers, Roberto Ureña, Elias Rosario, José Gil, Raúl Comme Debroth, Francisco Peña Vasallo, imbued him with professional quality.

The engineer Franco Ramírez, president of the Board of Regents of INTEC, gave the welcoming words of the event, while the research professor Leandra Tapia, read the profile of the Emeritus Professor Leticia Mendoza, and the degree academic coordinator of the Area of Health Sciences, Fernando Santamaría, was in charge of the profile of Professor Emeritus Raymundo Jiménez.

With Jiménez and Mendoza the number of emeritus professors of INTEC rises to four, a distinction can only be granted after the employment relationship of the person who receives it with INTEC has concluded, therefore, the recognition publicly declares the importance of the emotional bond of the university with the honored person. The previous ones distinguished as emeritus professors are the past rector of INTEC, Miguel J. Escala and the past director and founder of the Emilio Rodríguez Demorizi Library, Lucero Arboleda.
