INTEC will analyze the economic implications of COVID-19 in webinar


SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) will celebrate this Wednesday, April 8, a webinar the economic implications who would have the COVID-19 Coronavirus in the Dominican Republic.

The virtual meeting, open to the public, will be broadcast live at 11:00 in the morning by INTEC's YouTube channel (@INTECrd), which can be accessed through this link: https://youtu.be/rdrxYgX4sR4 and its educational radio station radio.intec.edu.do.

The webinar will include the participation of Circe Almánzar, executive vice president of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD); Juan Manuel Sontag, general director of Economic and Social Development of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (Mepyd); Richard Medina, director of the Ministerial Cabinet and financial advisor to the Ministry of Finance and Pavel Isa, coordinator of the Dominican Observatory for International Trade and research professor at INTEC.

In addition, Magdalena Lizardo, executive director of the Pareto Consulting Group and professor of Economics and Business at INTEC, and Rafael Espinal, coordinator of the School of Economics of that university, will participate. The meeting will be moderated by Armando Barrios, dean of INTEC's Business and Economy Area.

Participants will address issues of economic sustainability before extended closure of companies, industries and institutions, suspension of employment contracts, government purchases and how long the national economy can be sustained under these conditions and when it would stabilize again.

In this regard, the rector of INTEC, Rolando M. Guzmán, stated that the interest in organizing this series of webinars is to anticipate, together with specialists, all the possible implications of the Coronavirus COVID-19 for sectors of national life, as a way to expand the capacity and effectiveness of the response.

The first webinar of the series was focused on the capacities and challenges of the Public Health System in the face of the pandemic, and included the participation as panelists of the executive president of the Abreu Clinic, Jesús Fernandes; the manager of the National Health Insurance, Jeffrey Lizardo; the executive president of Grupo Humano, Eduardo Cruz; the president of the Santo Domingo Health Cluster and the Executive Branch medical advisers, Jorge Marte, medical director of the Advanced Medicine and Telemedicine Diagnosis Center (CEDIMAT) and Amado Alejandro Báez, president of the Santo Domingo Health Cluster. It had a virtual audience of more than 600 people.

In the exchange they discussed epidemiological aspects, clinical management and the implications of Family Health Insurance, in the face of the global health crisis caused by COVID-19.
