INTEC professor awarded the National Prize for Data Journalism


SANTO DOMINGO. - Mariela Mejía, teacher of the degree in Social Communication and Digital Media of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) was awarded the first place in the Data Journalism Award, carried out by the General Directorate of Ethics and Government Integrity (Digeig) and the Presidential Office of Information and Communication Technologies (Optic).

The report “Lethal Patrolling”, also authored by journalists Tania Molina and Suhelis Tejero, in alliance with Connectas, won first place in the Award whose main purpose is to encourage Dominican journalists to use information from public institutions , through its information access systems.

In the second delivery of this award, the winners were also Panky Corcino, in second place, and Luis Emilio Trinidad, in third place. In the National Prize for Data Journalism, the winners used information from the transparency portals of public institutions.

The first place obtained a cash prize of 200 thousand pesos and a statuette in the diamond category; second place, 100 pesos and a statuette in the gold category; and third place, 50 thousand pesos and a statuette in the silver category.
