They form the University Network for the Advancement of Dominican Education (RUNED)
SANTO DOMINGO. - The rectors de five universities announced the formation of the University Network for the Advancement of Dominican Education (RUNED), a collaborative space through which they propose to deploy various initiatives in favor of development for the Education Dominican, especially higher education.
The Network is made up of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), the Pontifical Catholic University Mother and Teacher (PUCMM), the Action Pro Education and Culture University (UNAPEC), the Ibero-American University (UNIBE) and the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU), whose rectors signed a founding declaration of RUNED in which they specify the objectives of the new body.
They indicated that the Network arises based on the experience of collaboration between universities regarding the creation of the National Interuniversity Student Mobility Program (MOVENI), in 2018, and other common projects.
"We constitute RUNED to promote and facilitate the continuity and expansion of these experiences, with full respect for the independence of action of each of the member universities, with flexibility that allows the deployment of bilateral, multilateral or integrative projects and actions", affirm the guiding in the document.
The signing rectors are Julio Sánchez Maríñez, for INTEC; Ramón Alfredo de la Cruz Baldera, for PUCMM; Franklyn Holguín Haché, for UNAPEC; Julio Amado Castaños, for UNIBE and Miguel Fiallo Calderón, for UNPHU.
They also maintained that RUNED will be a space through which the academies will offer their consensus perspectives on issues that concern them as institutions of service to society and generators of public goods.
Recently, the RUNED member institutions held a meeting with the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt), Franklin García Fermín, in which they shared, among other topics, about the five-year evaluation processes and monitoring of the continuous improvement of universities, openness to consultations in the regulatory exercise by the Ministry, quality assurance systems and cooperation between institutions throughout the crisis caused by the pandemic. Minister García Fermín thanked the rectors for their initiative and showed his willingness to give continuity to the regular meetings.
