INTEC receives 4-star QS Stars certification for its educational excellence

SANTO DOMINGO. - Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) today received the certificate that accredits it having obtained four overall stars in the QS Star diagnosis, a rating system developed by the British firm Quacquarelli Symonds that evaluates higher education indicators.

The QS Stars certification ceremony was held at the Social Security Auditorium (OSES), with the presence of academic authorities, representatives of the QS firm, strategic allies of the university, and a broad representation of its students, professors and collaborators.

In welcoming the event, Julio Sánchez Maríñez, rector of INTEC, said that “what we are celebrating today is the fruit of the work of many bees in the hive. I would like to thank each of you for your contribution, from different fronts, so that we have the honour of receiving a certificate for having obtained four stars in the QS Star evaluation,” he said.

Sánchez Maríñez celebrated the accreditations and re-accreditations obtained by INTEC in various programs such as three Engineering programs, the Medicine and Psychology programs, as well as the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the Area of Economics and Business. He also thanked the business sector, represented by executives from the companies EATON, Parque Industrial Duarte and AFP Siembra, who were present at the event, for the trust placed in the university for the development of research initiatives, improvements in study programs and alliances for the development of the country.

In the QS Stars evaluation, INTEC obtained the maximum score (five stars) in the categories of teaching, employability and academic development, and a four-star rating in inclusion. This achievement demonstrates the positive impact of the university in the training of highly qualified professionals and its contribution to the development of the country.

The result of this evaluation positions INTEC as one of the most outstanding higher education institutions in the Caribbean and Latin America, since it was evaluated with the same rigor with which great universities in the world are evaluated, such as the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Universidad Camilo José Cela, Rochester Institute of Technology, Penn State University, among other academies from various countries.

Mauricio Izquierdo, Regional Director of Partnerships for Latin America at Quacquarelli Symonds, presented the official certificate to the rector of INTEC, since the announcement of the results obtained by the university was made public at an event held in Mexico in October of last year.

Izquierdo stated that since its founding, INTEC is an institution that has demonstrated a constant commitment to academic excellence and the training of leaders in the Dominican Republic. “INTEC has been a pillar in the development of higher education in the Dominican Republic. Since its creation, the university has stood out for its innovative approach, adaptability and commitment to the training of highly qualified professionals,” said the representative of the QS firm.

The Vice-Rector for Administration and Finance, Alliet Ortega, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Intecian community. “We receive this qualification with great honor and gratitude, as it is the result of the collective effort of our teachers, researchers, students, graduates and collaborators. It motivates us to continue strengthening our academic proposal and reaffirming our commitment to quality education,” she said.

The event was attended by INTEC's Vice-Rector for Research and Liaison, Rosario Aróstegui; the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Arturo del Villar; the Director of Research, Carlos Sanlley, as well as administrative directors, deans, academic program coordinators and students. Meanwhile, representing the firm QS, Martín Serrano, project developer for that institution, also attended.
