INTEC announces its V Seminar on Scientific Journalism


SANTO DOMINGO. The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) summons the journalists interested in updating their knowledge in coverage of topics of science to participate in the V edition of its International Seminar on Scientific Journalism which has as its central theme "Data journalism and entrepreneurship."

The activity, which will take place on Tuesday, October 19, will feature the participation of renowned local and international journalists and will begin with the panel "Trends in Data Journalism and opportunities for international collaboration", made up of Yuvidián Almeida Cruz, Data Editor and journalist from Postscript, Cuba; Mariela Mejía, investigative journalist for the Diario Libre newspaper; Carlos Eduardo Huertas, Director of the journalistic platform for the Americas Connectas and with the renowned investigative journalist, Alicia Ortega, producer and host of El Informe con Alicia Ortega.

The program continues with the participation of the INTEC researcher and teacher Renato González and the theme "Data science and technology at the service of researchers" and then the topic "The databases of government information", by Elizabet Díaz, Director of Transparency and Open Government, and "Research resources at INTEC", by Elsi Jiménez, director of the Emilio Rodríguez Demorizi Library at the university.

The big closing will be the conference "Keys to entrepreneurship in journalism: SembraMedia Experience", which will be in charge of Indhira Serum, SembraMedia ambassador in the Dominican Republic and INTEC teacher.

The International Seminar on Scientific Journalism is an initiative of INTEC, through its Institutional Communication Directorate, and in its four previous editions it has received nearly 200 journalists and communicators, who have participated on topics as diverse as “Climate change, more Beyond the environment ”,“ How to communicate about science ”,“ Spaces for science ”and“ Transmedia journalism: a transversal way of telling stories ”.

The International Seminar on Scientific Journalism of INTEC has among its objectives to reflect on the relationship that exists between science and journalism, their divergent logics and their meeting points and to create a space for socialization among journalists interested in practicing journalism on research topics.
