Engineer Deyslen Mariano Hernández is the new dean of the Engineering Area at INTEC
The academic and researcher led the team that achieved ABET international accreditation for the Mechatronics Engineering program and has extensive experience in research on renewable energies and smart microgrids.
SANTO DOMINGO. El Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) appointed the engineer Deyslen Mariano Hernandez as the new dean of the Engineering Area for the period 2026-2029, a responsibility from which he will lead the strengthening of the academic offer, research and the link with the productive sectors.
Mariano Hernández holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Valladolid, Spain, and a PhD in Energy Management for Sustainable Development from INTEC. He also holds a Master's degree in Mechatronics Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, is an Industrial Engineer from the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), and has specialized training in Data Science. Furthermore, he completed the DIES International Deans' Course Latin America, an international university leadership program sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
With more than 15 years of experience in teaching, research and academic management, he has served as a Full Professor at INTEC since 2010. Since November 2022 he has been the coordinator of careers in the Engineering Area, from where he promoted initiatives for quality assurance, curriculum updating, academic planning and the formulation of the operational plan and budget of the area.
Among the key achievements of his tenure is his leadership of the process that culminated in the international accreditation of the Mechatronics Engineering program by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), one of the world's most recognized engineering program accreditation bodies. He has also actively participated in projects aimed at strengthening academic innovation and the continuous improvement of engineering programs.
Her scientific output includes research funded by the National Fund for Innovation and Scientific and Technological Development (FONDOCYT), with an emphasis on smart microgrids, renewable energy, and energy management. She has also participated in international studies on decarbonization and the sustainability of the Dominican Republic's energy system.
Throughout his career at INTEC, he has received recognition as an Outstanding Researcher and a High-Performance Teacher, distinctions that reflect his contributions to research, innovation, and the training of professionals in the field of engineering.
The Engineering Department reports to the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, and its dean is a member of the Academic Council and the university's strategic management team. In this role, Mariano Hernández will be responsible for driving the development of academic programs, promoting applied research, and strengthening partnerships with the productive sectors, in line with the institution's vision of training professionals capable of responding to the country's technological and sustainable development challenges.
In a statement sent to the academic community, the rector of INTEC, Arturo Del Villar, thanked the professor for her work. Margarita Martinez, who served as interim dean, "ensuring the continuity of the academic and administrative processes of the Engineering Area during that period."
