According to Title 2 of the Regulations for the National Research Career, there are six categories in which a researcher may be appointed: Senior Researcher; Associate; Secondary; Research Assistant; Emeritus; and Honorary. The first four categories evaluate careers based on scientific output, from the most incipient to the most outstanding.
"Depending on the level of scientific articles published, research projects developed, and undergraduate, master's, and doctoral theses supervised (along with other aspects), researchers are placed into one of those four categories," explained Gallur, one of the appointed professors.
In addition to the above, the professor noted that the honorary researcher category is for foreigners, and the emeritus category is for researchers with more than 30 years of experience. The latter category is not nominated by the candidate, but by other members and research institutions.
Currently, the National Research Program has 2,035 scientists appointed. Of these, 463 are new recruits (61.4%), distributed between 216 men (46.65%) and 247 women (53.35%), consolidating gender parity in national research. Regarding category changes, 38 applications were evaluated and 17 were approved (44.7%).
The call for applications is annual, and the application process is conducted through the website. "The results of this call by the CSH Area show that more and more teachers are participating in the National Research Program and are being admitted," Gallur stated in his speech.
