Violence Against Women is one of the world's leading international academic journals on violence against women.

SANTO DOMINGO. - Santiago Gallur Santorum, teacher of Area of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), has been selected as a reviewer for the international scientific journal Violence Against Women, one of the most relevant in the field of social sciences.

This publication, edited by the SAGE group, is part of the prestigious JCR and SCOPUS indexes, and occupies a prominent place among the 50 best journals in its field, with an impact factor of 2.3 and 2.9 at five years.

The magazine Violence Against Women is dedicated to raising awareness and addressing the global problem of gender violence, promoting the generation of knowledge and solutions from the academic world.

Referring to his selection, Gallur said that, as a reviewer, he seeks to “make visible the interrelation between news published in digital media and social patterns of behaviour, highlighting how informal education generated by the media can influence stereotypes and attitudes towards women.” He explained that societies with more negative stereotypes in their news tend to record higher levels of gender violence, which is why he considers it crucial to work from this perspective to demystify these patterns and promote positive changes.

Gallur has dedicated more than 16 years to the study of femicide and gender violence from a multidisciplinary approach that combines educommunication and social sciences. Her research has been published in leading international journals and chapters in academic books, addressing contexts such as Mexico, Europe and the Dominican Republic.

On a personal and professional level, Dr. Gallur said that “collaborating with a journal of this level is an honor and a great responsibility. It is not only about evaluating high-impact research, but also about contributing to the advancement of science and the quality of publications. As a researcher from the 'global south', being part of a review team in the 'global north' reflects the high level we are achieving with our research on social and gender issues.”

With this, Gallur adds his participation as a reviewer in four international journals of the JCR ranking.
