CODIA recognizes research professors from INTEC


Ulises Jáuregui, from the Basic and Environmental Sciences Area, and Norberto Rojas, from the Engineering Area, were recognized during the 63rd anniversary of the union.

As part of Anniversary Week, Jáuregui, along with Rómulo Pérez, a graduate of Mechatronics Engineering from INTEC, addressed the situation and challenges of sargassum.

SANTO DOMINGO. - El Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors (CODIA) recognized professionals in the sector for their career and legacy, including two research professors from Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC).

Professor Ulises Jauregui, from the Basic Sciences and Environments Area, was recognized for his academic and scientific career in Chemical Engineering and environmental sciences; along with Norberto Rojas, from the Engineering Area, he was recognized for his outstanding career in Civil Engineering and his development of anti-seismic infrastructures.

During the month of January, CODIA held a week of activities in which they shared key knowledge of the sector and commemorated 63 years of an institution that is a pillar of development, innovation and the strengthening of professional practice in the country.

As part of Anniversary Week, Professor Jauregui gave the lecture “Sargassum situation and challenges”, in which he addressed the latest updates on the topic based on research and projects from INTEC, along with Rómulo Pérez, graduated from the career of Mechatronics Engineering from INTEC, who presented the autonomous sargassum collection device Sargazoom, a project that obtained a utility model patent in 2025.

Ulises Jauregui-Haza 

Jauregui Haza He is a chemical engineer and holds a Master of Science degree from the Mendeleev Institute of Chemical Technology in Moscow (Russia), and a PhD in Technical and Environmental Sciences from the Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse (France). He is currently a professor-researcher and coordinator of the Sargassum and Advanced Water Treatment Technologies research groups at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC).

With 39 years of experience, he has worked in the analysis and scaling of chemical-technological and environmental processes in the pharmaceutical industry, and applications of nuclear sciences to health and the environment. He has participated in more than 80 research projects and directed more than 30.

Norberto Rojas

Rojas is a civil engineer with a doctorate in Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. He worked for the Puerto Rico Seismic Network and, as part of his duties, traveled throughout the island giving seminars on earthquakes and what to do before, during, and after a seismic event.

Also, Dr. Rojas is the coordinator of the Master of Science in Structural Engineering and Earthquake-Resistant INTEC teaches, and among its investigations it is worth highlighting: “Seismic risks of critical buildings in the Dominican Republic: case study of school buildings”.

It regulates professional practice, protects its members and advises the State in engineering, architecture and surveying, seeking to promote technical progress and the quality of works.
