Public sector, companies and academia will promote innovations in the industry


SANTO DOMINGO.- With the aim of promoting the development of innovative products and tools in local manufacturing industries, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), the National Intellectual Property Office (Onapi), the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the National Association of Companies and Industries Herrera (ANEIH) signed an agreement that will allow students from the INTEC Industrial Design and Engineering participate in the productive processes of the industries for the execution of products by way of industrial designs.

This initiative is called “Design with Industry Program”And is carried out with a view to improving the country's national and international innovation indicators.

The signing of the inter-institutional collaboration agreement was in charge of the Minister of IIndustry, Commerce and MSMEs, Víctor Bisonó Haza; the president of the National Association of Companies and Industries of Herrera (ANEIH), Noel Ureña; the director of the National Office of Industrial Property (Onapi), Salvador Ramos, and the rector of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Julio Sanchez.

The agreement, which lasts for two years, stipulates that the ANEIH identify industries that are capable of cooperating and that can work hand in hand with the students of the INTEC and manage letters of commitment from participating industries.

INTEC students must carry out a survey and mapping of the productive processes of the industries, in order to identify improvements in product designs.

In addition, INTEC students, together with the industries selected by ANEIH, must develop industrial designs and carry out at least one test of their functionality within the industry, where the necessary conditions are established to carry it out.

INTEC students must also carry out feasibility tests of the proposed industrial designs within the industries and / or at the INTEC Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI-INTEC).

While the Onapi and the MICM will support in the processes of registration of protectable industrial designs, devised and conceptualized within the framework of the program, if applicable.

Likewise, the MICM and Onapi will coordinate and carry out a seminar on identification of protectable industrial designs.

The program has the purpose of strengthening human resources and enhancing the technical skills of the country's professionals, as well as contributing to the increase in innovation levels of the local manufacturing industries of the Dominican State.

By signing this agreement, the MICM, Onapi, INTEC and ANEIH They recognize that mutual collaboration constitutes one of the most effective mechanisms to promote a dynamic and sustainable development process that adjusts to the changes and demands of the time.
