Rectory appoints new dean of the Basic and Environmental Sciences Area


SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) appointed to the doctor Luis Enrique Rodríguez de Francisco as new decano of the Area of ​​Basic and Environmental Sciences for a period of three years. Replacing her duties is teacher Leticia Mendoza, who was dean for three consecutive terms.

Rodríguez de Francisco is agricultural engineer, graduated from Higher Institute of Agricultural Sciences of Granma, from his native Cuba; with Master in Plant Biotechnology full University of Ciego de Ávila y PhD in Biosciences and Agri-Food full University of Córdoba, Spain.

He joined INTEC in 2008 as teacher by subject of the Basic and Environmental Sciences Area, and in 2010 it happened to be full teacher, assuming the coordination of the sub-area and the Biology lab. Participated in the design full Degree in biotechnology, a pioneer and unique program of INTEC in the Dominican Republic, and in which he has served as coordinator since its approval in 2015.

The new dean has been principal investigator and co-investigator in more than 15 projects of national and international calls and has worked in the design of various training programs for INTEC and other local academic institutions.

Regarding his appointment, Rodríguez de Francisco said he is grateful to God and the people who have trusted him to assume the dean of the Area of ​​Basic and Environmental Sciences. Among his main objectives, he noted to maintain the good work carried out by the Area, in addition to working to strengthen research, teaching and innovation.

INTEC's Basic and Environmental Sciences Area reports to the Academic Vice-rector and its holder is a member of the Academic Council and of the university strategic management team. The appointment of the new dean is effective for a period of three years, extendable for two consecutive periods depending on the results of his management.

In a communication sent to the entire international community, the rector Julio Sánchez Maríñez expressed that, he celebrates the participation of all those involved in the exhaustive selection process and the exercise of international citizenship "within the institutional framework that conforms us, governs us, it values ​​and distinguishes us ”.

"The occasion is also propitious to express our deep gratitude and appreciation to Professor Leticia Mendoza, for her very valuable contribution to the Area and INTEC in her performance as dean," he said.

Sánchez Maríñez wished the new dean the greatest success, "trusting in his commitment and dedication to carry out his delicate responsibilities and in the supportive collaboration and cooperation of each and every member of our Hive."
