Professor and graduate of INTEC recognized as Senior Member of the IEEE


Renato González, professor of the Engineering Department, and INTEC engineering graduate, Elías Bortokán, were recognized as Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

SANTO DOMINGO. -The Professor of the Engineering Area, Renato González, as well as the graduated de Electronic and Communications Engineering, Elías Bortokán, were promoted to the degree Senior Member, the highest awarded by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE, for its acronym in English). Both were recognized for their significant performance and maturity in professional practice. 

Ruben Barrera-Michel, president of the Admission and Advance Committee, stressed that González's recognition is an honor granted only to those who have made significant contributions to the profession. And currently, other professionals from the United States, England, Singapore and Chile also have the same degree.

"Congratulations for this important milestone, and thanks for your contributions to the profession and the IEEE", were the words of Barrera for Professor González for the new title obtained in the world association of engineers, dedicated to standardization and development in areas technical, engineering, computing and technology.

On your side, Bortokán, who is currently a professor of mathematics, collaborator of newspapers and digital magazines and collaborator with the student magazine La Colmena, with some of his short stories, was also recognized.

The INTEC graduate is a storyteller, essayist, technological entrepreneur, and currently works on a book "Topics of Technology."

New Senior Members will receive benefits such as professional recognition of their peers for their technical and professional excellence and will have leadership eligibility, through which they can choose to be eligible and occupy positions of executive volunteers of the entity.

In addition, they may recommend other candidates, since in the future it serves as a reference for other senior membership applicants; will be invited to the panel to review the requests for new Senior Member and they will receive a bronze plaque with their recorded exaltation.

The IEEE is the world's largest technology professional organization, with around 400,000 members in 160 countries, and a leader in the creation of standards for the industry in electrical engineering, electronics, computing and related areas.

The IEEE has a very active subsection in the Dominican Republic, with more than 58 members. The current board is chaired by Hugo López, his vice president is Elías Bortokán; Iván Veloz, secretary; Jair Fernández, treasurer and Rafael Polanco, YP coordinator.
