Magdalena Lizardo is appointed coordinator of the Dominican Observatory of International Trade
SANTO DOMINGO. -Magdalena Lizardo Espinal is new coordinator of the Dominican Observatory of International Trade (ODCI), an academic body for research, dissemination and capacity building that is headquartered in the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC).
The ODCI Advisory Council ratified the choice of Lizardo Espinal during a virtual meeting that was attended by the Rector of INTEC, Julio Sánchez Maríñez, and the vice-rector for Research and Engagement, Víctor Gómez Valenzuela.
The ODCI coordinator substitute in the position to also INTEC research professor, Pavel Isa. In thanking her for the appointment, Lizardo Espinal thanked her for the trust and support placed in her for the performance of the role for which she was selected. He also stated that the ODCI is a space public-private-academic of great value whose purpose is to reflect, formulate and channel proposals so that they act strategically in the solution of the problems and challenges of Dominican foreign trade, as well as to take advantage of existing opportunities. Together with Lizardo he will be collaborating as a research professor Henry Rosa Polanco, the INTEC Business and Economy Area.
The members of the ODCI Advisory Council who participated were Vilma Arbaje, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs; Paola Rodríguez, in charge of the Economic Analysis and Competitiveness Division of the National Council of Free Export Zones (CNZFE); César Dargam, Executive Vice President of the National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP) and Circe Almánzar, Vice President of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD).
In addition, Elizabeth Mena, president of the Dominican Association of Exporters (ADOEXPO) and Odile Miniño, vice president of ADOEXPO; José Manuel Torres, Executive Vice President of the Dominican Association of Free Zones (ADOZONA); William Malamud, Executive Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR); Solangie Carbonell, Manager of Planning and Economic Analysis of the General Customs Directorate (DGA) and Amando Barrios, Dean of the INTEC Business and Economy Area.
Professional profile of Magdalena Lizardo
Lizardo Espinal is an economist graduated from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), with a doctorate in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also has master's degrees in International Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and in Political Science for Democratic Development from the FUNGLODE-University of Salamanca Program.
His professional activity has been concentrated in the areas of economic development, international trade and public finance. He has served as a teacher at INTEC since 1997.
She has been an economic advisor to public organizations in the Dominican Republic and Technical Vice Minister of the Presidency. He has also done consulting work for the World Bank, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Food and Drug Administration of the United Nations, and Agriculture (FAO) and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
