INTEC will recognize seven of its graduates

SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) will recognize the professional career and outstanding contributions de seven of its graduates and graduates during the fourteenth installment of INTEC Outstanding Graduate Award.

This year the doctors will be recognized Hector Armando Balcácer Estévez y Juan Jose Diaz Quiñones; the engineers Gelem Lluberes Rincon y Kheilydis Acevedo Romero, the engineer Jorge Luis Lopez; the philosopher, poet and essayist José Mármol, and the economist José Manuel Torres. The recognition will be held on Monday, November 29, at 7:00 p.m., and will be broadcast on the INTEC YouTube channel.

The selection of the winners is the result of an extensive selection process in which the applications of 86 citizens were openly received, who were put to a vote among the community of graduates and a jury made up of university authorities and different personalities of life. national.

The winners

Gelem Lluberes, graduated from Industrial engineer, is responsible for the execution of service agreements for power generation, overseeing Europe, Africa and Asia for Siemens Energy. In addition, he serves as a member of the board of Future Energy Leaders at the World Energy Council.  

Hector Balcácer He is a CM UCE Internist doctor, infectious disease doctor at the Dr. Salvador B. Gautier Hospital and a foreign doctor graduated from the Educational Commission For Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Jorge Luis Lopez is a graduate of civil Engineering graduated cum laude, in 1980. He introduced to the country the Construction Management methodology known in North America as Agency Construction Management. In 2007, he founded LEXCO, company dedicated to Engineering, Management, and Construction of Projects.

José Manuel Torres He is a 1986 economics graduate. He received a Fullbright-Laspau scholarship and completed a master's degree in Economics. Currently, he is Executive Vice President of the Dominican Free Zones Association (ADOZONA). He is a member of several local and international boards of directors, in areas related to labor, energy, trade, social security, technical-professional training, customs and others, among them: Founding Member-Board of Directors BASC Dominicana (Business Alliance for Secure Comerce), Founding Member, Vice President, of the National Land Transport Network (RNTT), representative of the employer sector, Dominican Institute of Occupational Risks (IDOPRIL), Center America and DR Textile and Apparel Council. 

Juan Jose Diaz Quinones He graduated from INTEC School of Medicine, Cum Laude in 2002. Later, he traveled to the city of Philadelphia where he completed his residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics at Temple University. He was head of the General Division of Gynecology and Obstetrics. He is currently in the process of transitioning to his new position at the University of Miami and Jackson Health as Director of the General Division and Vice Chair of Operations for the department.

kheilydis acevedo, HR Director Manufacturing and Supply Chain, Imperial Brands PLC (Hamburg, Germany). He graduated in 2000 from Industrial Engineering with the highest honors, he was operations manager at Editora Taller, becoming key so that in less than a year it became the number one commercial printing company and the second publishing house in the Dominican Republic. He completed master's degrees in Production Management from the University of Barcelona and Operations Management from Barna-EADA, he also completed master's degrees in Project Management and in Port Operations Management.

José Mármol He holds a doctorate in Philosophy from the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU), in 2018, with maximum qualifications (Cum Laude), within the framework of the program “Globalization under examination: challenges and interdisciplinary responses”. In addition, he studied a degree in Philosophy at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), having graduated Cum Laude with a thesis entitled "The concept of power in Nietzsche", in 1984; postgraduate degree in Applied Linguistics, in Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), and a Master's Degree in Philosophy in a Global World, at the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU), in 2015, having achieved the Honors Degree.

He has a wide bibliographic production that includes poetry and essays, has been a professor at the main universities in the Dominican Republic and has also been a columnist in important media.

The jury

The selection jury for the Outstanding Graduate Award 2021 was chaired by the Rector of INTEC, Julio Sánchez Maríñez, the Vice-Rector for Research and Engagement, Víctor Gómez-Valenzuela; the Academic Vice-Rector, Arturo del Villar; the Vice-Rector for Administration and Finance, Alliet Ortega Rabassa; in his capacity as full professor, Luis Toirac, coordinator of the Industrial Engineering career, and in his capacity as past rector, Miguel Escala.

In addition, the engineer Franco Gómez Ramírez, the Director of the Institutional Communication Directorate, Carmen Matos, were present as Regent and Graduate of INTEC. On behalf of the Alumni Association (ADE), the engineer Franklyn Padrón, and as a guest personality external to INTEC, the director of the Diario Libre newspaper, Inés Aizpún.

About the prize

INTEC began the delivery of the Outstanding Graduate Award in 2007, through its Graduate Relations Office, to recognize its professionals who have performed successfully in their respective areas and whose contributions have or have had a trajectory with evident social impact, showing in his performance attachment to values, justice and human solidarity.

The annual selection of the winners is carried out by a rigorous evaluation and selection mechanism, made up of two stages: an open application process, in which members of the university community and society nominate the graduates. Then, the applications are confirmed and evaluated, after which they are submitted to electronic voting before the community of graduates.

In a second stage, a jury chaired by the Rector and made up of executives and personalities close to the university, and prominent in national life, weighs the applications and chooses those deserving of the award.

In 14 editions, the university has recognized a total of 95 of its graduates and graduates, including professionals such as doctor Pedro Ureña, engineer Sadala Khoury, educator Amalia León, economist Guarocuya Félix, engineer Francina Hungary, father Mario Serrrano Marte, the marketer Elsa Turull de Alma, the engineer and entrepreneur Katherine Motyka, the industrial engineer and Paralympic swimmer Lourdes Alejandra Aybar, the psychologist and poet Francisco Báez, among others.
