Outstanding graduate of INTEC is a finalist for the Women who Change the World award from the BHD León bank


The bank recognizes women who, with their actions, achieve positive transformations in society

SANTO DOMINGO. - The Outstanding Graduate of Medicine from INTEC, pediatrician Wendy Gómez, was chosen as one of the 10 finalists in the sixth edition of the Women who Change the World Award of the BHD León bank, an initiative through which the bank recognizes women who , with their actions, they achieve positive transformations in society.

The hematologist-oncologist, who is coordinator of Hemato Oncology, Onco-Pediatric Palliative Care at the Robert Read Cabral Hospital, was also recognized by the Basic and Environmental Sciences and Health Sciences Area of ​​INTEC for her collaboration and continuous work in BIO -INTEC, in 2004, and received the 2015 Outstanding Graduate Award.

The ten finalists selected from the more than 100 applications submitted to the BHD León are Daisy Acosta, Evelyn Peniche, Jalenny Martínez, Liquedia Ventura, Margarita Mayer, María Cáceres (Chachy), María Peralta (Mamá Chicha), María Trinidad Ayala (Sister Trini ) and Ramona Ureña (Quina).

Likewise, the jury of the Women who Change the World Award voted for a special recognition for Dorca Balcácer, whose initiatives have promoted the socioeconomic and environmental development of the provinces of Espaillat and Hermanas Mirabal in the last three decades.

The jury is made up of Claudia Catrain, specialist in corporate social responsibility; Huchi Lora, journalist; María Amalia León, executive director of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation; Mercedes Ramos, president of the Ramos Group; Oscar Villanueva, president of the Fundación Quiéreme Como Soy; Soledad Álvarez, philologist and poet, and Steven Puig, president of the jury and executive president of Banco BHD León.

The jury weighed in the candidates criteria such as the contribution, impact and sustainability of their initiatives, in addition to the recognition of their actions by the community.

Professional Profile

Wendy Cristhyna Gómez García graduated from Medicine, Magna Cum Laude, from INTEC, in 2004 and made her specialty in Pediatrics at the Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Children's Hospital, endorsed by UASD. In addition, she specialized in Pediatric Hematology Oncology at the National Pediatric Oncology Unit (UNOP), with the endorsement of the Francisco Marroquín University, Guatemala.

Gómez García has collaborated for the Dominican Republic and Haiti in the International Outreach Program of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, United States, belongs to the editorial team of the Latin American Pediatric Education in Palliative Care and End of Life (EPEC), as well as regional editor for the Latin American Pediatric Perspective magazine.

In addition, she is Co-chair of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) for the Pediatric Oncology in Development Countries Working Group (PODC) of Palliative Care and is also regional delegate for the Dominican Republic of the Latin American Society of Pediatric Oncology (SLAOP).
