INTEC's Medicine program receives international reaccreditation
SANTO DOMINGO. - The Medicine career of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) has received an extension of its international accreditation from the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) for a period of five years.
With the extension of this international accreditation, CAAM-HP recognizes that INTEC's Medicine program has maintained the quality standards that led it to become the first in the Dominican Republic to obtain international accreditation in 2018, which have allowed its graduates to position themselves in the country, the United States, Latin America, and Europe.
From an early stage, the Medicine program encourages its students to participate in scientific research projects through the BioINTEC initiative, in which competencies are introduced and the application of evidence-based medicine is promoted, thereby strengthening the research profile of future physicians.
Furthermore, through its Social Medicine Internship, a pioneering and distinctive initiative of INTEC's medical trainees, the university promotes comprehensive training with an emphasis on social responsibility and ethics. As part of this internship, medical trainees reside in a rural community for two months and offer medical services in Primary Care Units (UNAP). They also carry out research work in which they present situations observed in the community from the perspective of community health.
In its more than 50 years of history, INTEC has trained more than 3,000 doctors at the undergraduate level, as well as many more in postgraduate courses, as well as in the various medical specialties offered by the university as part of its extensive and prestigious medical residency program.
INTEC offers first-class facilities including equipped classrooms and laboratories, medical simulation centers and an extensive library, which promote practical learning and the development of up-to-date clinical skills.
