  • Program structure

    Curricular design

The Doctorate program in Environmental Sciences is based on the principle of learning about scientific research, ensuring high training based on the use of advanced research methods and tools, the production of new knowledge and technologies to face and solve problems in an innovative way in the field of environmental sciences.

The program has a duration of not less than three (3) years and a maximum term of five (5) years to obtain a doctor's degree. The study plan is structured in two fundamental periods, a period of teaching and a period of investigation. The applicant must complete all one hundred (100) credits, of which twenty-eight (28) credits correspond to compulsory and elective subjects in the teaching period, and seventy-two (72) credits to the research activities in the period of research or doctoral training.

    1. Teaching period: advanced and elective courses related to the central objectives of the program or linked to generic postgraduate competences. It has a duration of twelve (12) months or four (4) quarters.
    2. Research period or doctoral training: The applicant develops his research project accompanied by an advisor. It has a duration of minimum 2 years and maximum 4 years. The doctoral student must satisfactorily pass two (2) activities of three credits each, accumulating the six (6) credits related to a comprehensive exam and the approval of the PhD thesis subject. Likewise, it will have to approve three thesis workshops corresponding to the closing of each third of the planned activities plan. It is mandatory to publish at least one article in an international circulation journal indexed in the Web of Science that provides 3 credits. Publications in other periodical scientific journals with review committee provide 1 credit, but the sum of three of them does not replace the obligation to publish in a journal indexed in the Web of Science. The presentation of papers in international scientific events contributes two (2) credits and in national events contributes one (1) credit. At least one of the works must be presented at an international event. The investigation period culminates with the pre-defense of the thesis before a tribunal formed by three (3) and five (5) members of the Advisory Committee, who will give the verdict for the approval of the topic in the final dissertation.
